webfact Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Branch offices of state-owned banks, which are located in malls or department stores in the 13 “Dark Red” provinces, including Bangkok, will suspend their services, starting tomorrow (Tuesday July 20th) until further notice, according to an announcement by the Government Financial Institutions Association (GFA). The move is in line with the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA)’s tightening of lockdown restrictions in the “Dark Red” zone, to contain escalating COVID-19 infections. The state-run banks include the Government Savings Bank, the Government Housing Bank, the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Export-Import Bank of Thailand, the Islamic Bank of Thailand, the SME Development Bank and the Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation (TCG). Popular Post RichardColeman Posted July 19, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2021 I'd suggest you are less likely to get covid in the bank than from the ATM outside being using by a few thousand dirty fingers 4 2

Popular Post smedly Posted July 19, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2021 I find this highly irregular - are they still paying employee salaries ? Is the government in complete financial meltdown that they cannot pay them Just to say "The move is in line with the Centre for COVID-19 Situation" is not in line with anything - banks are an essential service according to their own rules - WHY ARE THESE BANKS BEING CLOSED ????? 5 1 1

Mr Meeseeks Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 This might be to prevent a run on those government banks... must be trouble at mill 2
utalkin2me Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Banks close when they have no more cash. Any reports of atms being empty? This def happened in other countries. May be just a slick move on the banks’ part. 1

The Government doesn't want their banks swamped with people trying to get loans as the "lockdown(not)" bites and the economy comes to a full stop. Me thinks that Thailand is heading towards a recession of the Great Depression proportions. The number of homeless and desperate people are growing daily at an alarming rate and as far as I can see the Government is doing nothing meaningful to address it. 3
jaiyenyen Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 K Bank is definitely closing branches too. Chaeng Watanna branch already closed.
statman78 Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 These closures make sense. If you read the article branches in department stores and malls in deep red zones are closed. Stand alone branches are still open but with reduced hours. Outside of the deep red zones all branches are open. 2
Moonlover Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 There's nothing sinister about this at all, they did the same thing last year. It's all about reducing footfall and crowding in the malls and department stalls. 1 2
rwill Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 They are only talking about branches in malls. The malls have been ordered closed. So of course the banks would have to close too.
Popular Post mackayae Posted July 19, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2021 So the not closed banks will be even more crowded. 4
