There's supposed to be a 10% setaside of the U.S. donated Pfizer doses for foreign nationals in Thailand. The MoPH has said they plan to direct those to elderly foreign nationals and those with chronic medical conditions.

At last report, due to arrive at the end of this month.

Makes one wonder if it will only be for those who have not had a prior vaccination?, Maybe given as a second dose much like they are currently doing with Sinovac and AZ.  Just wondering.....

143,744 people are currently being treated in hospitals and field hospitals in #Thailand for #COVID19, causing acute hospital bed shortage. Cases in #Bangkok surpassed 3,000 today, making up about 28% of all infections in this current wave. Read more: https://bit.ly/3x3R0NQ

I believe this was one of the first registration sites foreigners could register for a vaccine, and what a disaster that turned out to be

If you are still trying to get a vaccination appointment, I would advise you to keep an eye on http://thailandintervac.com for the latest news.

@MFAThai

The @MFAThai has implied that they will open up for more age groups soon once the most vulnerable are vaccinated. Good luck!

So... Samut Sakhon, I believe, becomes the first Thai province other than BKK to crack the 1,000 new COVID cases in a day mark.... Something going seriously wrong out there.  And they had 13 COVID deaths in a single day earlier this week, as well.

Last time they locked down Samut Sakhon and imprisoned the migrant workers when cases blew up.  Wonder what the Governor, who was seriously infected and on a respirator last time thinks?  This is getting very tenuous at bests, and worrisome.

The latest map for #Thailand shows every province has at least one #COVID19 case today. Three provinces (green) have 1-10 cases, 24 provinces (yellow) have 11-50 cases, 12 provinces (orange) have 51-100 cases and 38 provinces (red) have more than 100 cases.

38 provinces today in the 100+ new COVID cases club, eclipsing the comparable count of 35 from yesterday and 28 and 24 provinces in the prior days.... Things are accelerating out in the breadth of the country.

Ok. So that I can try and keep an open mind, can you post some links to articles that confirm that the steep bell graph for India tells the whole story?

I mean, it’s a huge success story to see cases rise so quickly and then fall just as quickly. So there must be articles on it,  not least because every country in the world would like a falling case chart like that. So there should be some very good lessons to be learned. I for one am happy to learn about them, because although I am not a Covid skeptic, I’m happy to receive information that adds to my knowledge.

so, to be practical, what did India do that Thailand should also now do, so that Thailand’s cases fall as quickly as India’s has done?

Huge success, right! ????

"The study pegged excess deaths—or the number of people who died beyond what is normally expected—at between 3.4 million and 4.7 million from January 2020 to June 2021, according to the report released Tuesday from Arvind Subramanian, a former chief economic adviser for the Indian government, and researchers at the Center for Global Development and Harvard University."

https://www.wsj.com/articles/indias-covid-19-death-toll-is-likely-in-the-millions-study-finds-11626792531

In case the official trend in India is accurate, it seems they are benefiting now from some level of herd immunity after having paid a high price in terms of illness and deaths.

Taking into account the population size, 4 million deaths in India would be broadly equivalent to 200,000 deaths in Thailand.

That is, I believe, the third highest daily total for Bangkok thus far...

The only higher days I know of were 3,116 on July 9 and 3,191 on July 10, which I believe was the pandemic high for BKK.

I read in BP that he has told the medical staff there to break the health ministry isolation regulations that are  causing bottle necks in their system he reckons lives are more important than regulations.Seems he's putting his neck out for  his constituents.Maybe he had an awakening during his bout with covid. It also appears some more are taking matters into their own hands.I also read somewhere that Buri Ram have stopped prioritising vaccinations there because the Moto Grand Prix has been cancelled.I didn't know they were prioritising Buri Ram but not surprised as it's the Nutman's province.

What I wanna know is... will these be Pfizer or AZ opportunities...or a choice even.....

The current Intervac webpage says Sinovac and AZ available "as of today." But the burst of sudden new promised hospital locations for the elderly and medically vulnerable seems to be happening right prior to the scheduled arrival of the Pfizer vaccines and their 10% set-aside for foreign nationals (intended for the elderly and medically vulnerable).

So, we shall see!  ????

Thailand’s mortality is less than 1% (0.82%).

Hmmm ????. You don’t think the government is fudging the numbers a bit, do you? That would be dishonest!

Wrong.
You need to look at it as a percentage of concluded cases not total cases.

Which makes it about %1.5.

Many of the current 150k active cases will also succumb to Covid.

Pfizer would be preferred.

My guess is... anyone who's had a first shot of AZ won't be eligible for any Pfizer vaccines... That they'll use those for the older and medically vulnerable populations not yet vaccinated....

And those of us with first AZ shots will simply continue onward to our second AZ doses...  That's not what I'd like/prefer, but I suspect that's what we're gonna get.

But if there are any spare U.S. Pfizer doses still sitting around unused in late September when I'm due back, maybe I might get a choice... But I'm not holding my breathe....

Thinking that later today (Friday) and even moreso tomorrow it will be interesting to see the level of traffic exiting Bangkok.

Long weekend and although Tuesday is not now a holiday I think that there could be mass exodus.

As pointed out earlier the form to register for travel is not robust.

Did they ban buses out of Bangkok? That would be sensible restriction.

Good luck with that.

First-year uni student files police complaint against Prayut in Hat Yai

Vajiravich Mamamuna, a first-year student at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Economics, filed the complaint with Hat Yai Police Station’s deputy inspector Pol Capt Suchart Kaewrat.

He backed the complaint with receipts and other records of Covid-related expenses.

“Prayut Chan-o-cha, as prime minister, is in charge of managing the Covid-19 pandemic. But, due to wrongful management since the beginning of 2020, Thailand is having to deal with more than 9,000 Covid-19 cases per day, and many patients and victims are being neglected,” he explained.

In order to believe it is 1.5% based on that calculation you would also need to believe that Thailand is testing and finding every single person who has Covid and there are no undiagnosed cases in the country.

So either Thailand is doing an amazing job with testing or the mortality rate is lower than 1.5%.
