Checking on it now, I see that the WHO assigns Greek letters only to variants classified as "Variants of Concern (VOCs)" and "Variants of Interest (VOIs)" . Three variants that were originally classified as VOIs and given the letters Epsilon, Zeta and Theta were subsequently demoted to "Alerts for Further Monitoring" with the names B.1.427/B.1.429, P.2 and P3 respectively. https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/ https://www.rivm.nl/sites/default/files/2021-07/Tabel virus varianten 23 juli 2021 ENG.pdf Therefore, it seems that we can now look forward to MU, NU and Xi. The WHO has to go through the Greek alphabet first before moving on to something else. I doubt, though, that it will be a spelling table like alpha, bravo, charlie etc.
