Sanook reported on the alarming and mysterious case of the death of a one year old female toddler in the Nolaem Thong sub-district of Kalasin province in the north eastern region of Thailand.

The child passed away while she was being taken to Somdej hospital.

Suspicions were raised as to the cause of death when an autopsy revealed the child may have been sexually abused.

The body was taken to Khon Kaen for a more detailed autopsy to be conducted.

In latest developments in the case yesterday the provincial chief of police Pol Maj-Gen Somneuk Mikwan and two local senior officers interrogated the mother and stepfather of the deceased plus a maternal grandmother and a male neighbor.

They were all interviewed separately after the couple - Prankaew, 22, and Jiraphan, 25 - had earlier been questioned.

It emerged that both the mother and stepfather had a history of drug abuse, a fact confirmed by positive urine tests.

In addition the stepfather admitted to assaulting the child on many occasions. He was angered when the child vomited and was crying loudly.

Somneuk said that the mother gave a meandering explanation for her actions possibly because she was still high on drugs.

She said that her daughter had banged her head and vomited.

Both have initially been charged with drug abuse and the stepfather has been charged with assault.

As to whether the stepfather is charged with manslaughter, Somneuk said that police were waiting on further details from the autopsy that would take 45 days.

Meanwhile reporters found themselves unwelcome at the cremation of the little girl after her body was released to the distraught family yesterday.

A bit late for that. Anyone, anyone at all, is allowed to have an unlimited number of children. Less qualifications needed than to work at 7-11. That's just the way society is.

Plus, the kid was just one year old, and already the father wasn't around and she'd linked up with someone else.

I've never seen the drug problem so bad before.

Sometimes whole families hooked on Yaba or Ice.

I'm not talking smoking a joint.

Ice and Yaba is so addictive.

Makes one so paranoid and delusional.

All you want every waking hour is another hit of the stuff.

Scary sh**.

Spot on.

And herein lies the problem!

Kids born up in the sticks into these type of feckless individuals and families just haven't got a chance.

Some sick Mo Fok ers... May the punishment fit the crime.... after about 40 years in lock up
