Rumoured Increase in Required Bank Deposit to THB3 million

Featured Replies

There is a Chinese man living in Chiang Mai who is active on YouTube

He is claiming that Thai Immigration will be increasing the retirement visa bank account minimum to THB3 million from THB800K

I'd post the link but my wife is feeling lazy and wishes not to share with me the video

Moreover, I don't speak Mandarin so it's all Greek to me

Has anyone else heard of this rumour? Would this fellow be a quack?

[You may be cognizant of recent changes to Malaysia's MM2H retirement program, which are extreme.]

Many thanks in advance for any insights

That is going hurt.

Mind you, getting married in rush might cost you just as much.

UPDATE: my wife has clarified that the Chinese fellow speaks about the 10-year visa requirement

I'm no expert on retirement visas, but the 10-year arrangement seems foolish in terms of unnecessary currency exposure

So, now this Chinese fellow apparently clarified himself that *he isn't speaking of the 1-year retirement visa*

[This Chinese fellow, a Mainlander, seems quite annoying to me. I'm no sinophobe at all, I really enjoy the Chinese cultures in Southeast Asia, but he's a member of the PRC which is certainly quite different]

A new record?

Even I lasted longer than that.

Cool.  False alarm then.  The Non-OX visa has always had a 3 Million baht requirement, so topic can be closed now.

By the way, I don't believe Chinese nationals are eligible for the visa anyway:
