Popular Post webfact
Picture: Daily News The big guns were out in support of beleaguered health minister Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday at the Thai parliament as they sought to allay public fears over Thailand's mix and match vaccine strategy. Presenting a united front were Bhumjai Thai MP - Anutin's party - Suphachai Jaisamut, Dr Kiatphoom Wongjarit of the Ministry of Public Health - that Anutin fronts - Dr Suphakij Sirilak Sirilak of the Department of Medical Science and familiar face Dr Opas Kankawinpong of the Department of Disease Control. Suphakij led the defence of Sinovac - a Chinese produced vaccine - just a day after Anutin had addressed the Thai parliament in the no confidence debate about his role in the pandemic and the part played by procurement and use of Sinovac. Suphakij said that Thailand had a whole bank of evidence - about to be printed - that showed the mix and match strategy was good, reported Daily News. In combative mood he said it was "very stupid" to wait for the findings of research before doing something that would help the people. He claimed that when the research is published - and Thailand tells the world - it will show that one shot of Sinovac and one of Astra Zeneca is the same as having two shots of Astra Zeneca. He said it was right and proper to use what vaccines were available rather than wait until others arrived. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-09-02 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

No, I won't be convinced "when the research is published", I'll wait until it gets reviewed by reputable western scientists, not some "cronies". It ist likely though that Sinovac/AZ is better than nothing. But this appalling situation where untested combinations of vaccines have to be rolled out to the population is the failure of a government, who a year ago sat on their fat asses and devised a totally inadequate and corrupt vaccine procurement strategy. 12

They've got it on a post it note now, its then to be sent to a committee for final draft before being released as an expanded and bloated set of numbers and percentages, tagged with some pretty graphs, no peer review required.

So trials are totally unnecessary! Research is a waste of time! All those eminent scientists researching and trialing cures for cancer are stupidly wasting their time. Just come up with any old mix of cancer drugs and try it out on millions of cancer sufferers. It would be "very stupid" to wait for the findings of research! Why do the Thai population put up with this dangerous nonsense.

mahtin
A mix-and-match approach to Covid vaccines - using different brands for first and second doses - appears to give good protection against the pandemic virus, a UK study has found. The Com-Cov trial looked at the efficacy of either two doses of Pfizer, two of AstraZeneca, or one of them followed by the other. All combinations worked well, priming the immune system. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-57636356

Gottfrid
Thailands mix and match! That´s what is worrying! Seems like no other countries are rolling out such plan. Maybe there is a reason for that? 1

Yes, and I am trying to get a Pfizer for my second jab rather than another AZ like the first. Still waiting for the doctor to come back to me on that one.

I wouldn't trust there tests. Definitely be rigged in there favor. A peer review by a private lab, preferably away from Thailand would be the only saving grace for this mix and match garbage. Just get the right vaccines and stop placating one family for the sake of an entire beleaguered nation. Its the ethical thing to do.

This study is being led by the Oxford Vaccine Group (Chief Investigator Associate Professor Matthew Snape), and delivered by a network of trial sites across the UK. The study is funded by the Vaccine Task Force and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). Sorry, all about mix and match, but not Sinovac. More UK than Thailand, apologies for straying half off topic.

But of course they've got the corruption part nailed. The amount of money skimmed on the sinovac deals has created generational wealth for a few individuals, and left millions of Thais with a <deleted> vaccine.
Isaan sailor
How about a comparison of 2 shots AZ, to mix ‘n match SinoVac and AZ? Better yet, compare one shot AZ to two shots SinoVac. You can mix water with your beer. It still tastes like beer, but not nearly as satisfying.
