Divorced in Thailand, granted sole custody

Featured Replies

Dear all,

Some help and advice please, I'm undergoing a very harrowing time at the moment and shall be contacting a solicitor here in the UK, however here is my question,  following an uncontested divorce at a local Amphur in Thailand it was agreed by my wife that I shall have sole custody of our son, all signed and deliverd.  Would this be recognised in UK law ? After all the divorce is recognised under UK law.

Thsnk you for any comments.

It will be accepted in UK.

Be sure you get a translation of the divorce decree translated to english and certified by the Department of Consular affairs of the MFA.

As UbonJoe said, yes. The papers from the amphur actually go over to Juvenile court and the sole custody decision becomes a court order of mutual agreement there. It is that court order that you should have translated and certified.

If I may ask one last question please, the divorce was in 2017, would the amphur of sent the documents to the family  juvenile court as a matter of course? And can I just turn up with original passport, divorce cert etc , and request the court copy? Again thank you all.
