BANGKOK, Sept 21 (TNA) – Airports of Thailand (AOT) will apply its Advance Passenger Processing System (APPS) to quickly check the health certification of air passengers to support country reopening in October.

AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn said AOT had earlier used APPS to detect air passengers with criminal records to help contain transnational crime. This time, the system would be applied to check the health certificates of air passengers including those concerning the required full COVID-19 vaccinations.

Good heavens above.

Not sure where the data for this will be coming from. Pretty sure they'd manage to leak it somehow, again.

Yet more nonsense about this system.

First of all, AOT doesn't use the system for anything - they're an airport management company. The system is used by Immigration and Customs.

Second, the system has never been used "to detect air passengers with criminal records to help contain transnational crime". Contrary to claims they've made since APPS was introduced, it does not somehow give them access to criminal records from other countries that would otherwise be unavailable to them; all it does is send passenger information ahead of the flight so that authorities can (theoretically) screen the data before arrival and know which people are of particular interest. In theory that could speed up arrival processing, but in practice that hasn't happened at all, since immigration delays rarely have anything to do with blacklisting or other obvious red flags.

Finally, the system cannot be used "to check the health certificates of air passengers" (another report claims that it will actually verify the authenticity of those documents). All it will potentially do is allow the uploading of information provided by the passenger so that it can be sent ahead of the flight. This could again theoretically allow for faster processing on arrival, but I think it's a virtual certainty that there will still be multiple manual reviews of the same paper documents that were already transmitted. I'm hoping to be proved wrong.

A girl behind a kiosk to check your vaccination record and say "this way please"?

Maybe can be used to verify the CEO as they receive the orginal covid docs to issue that certificate of entry.

Ah  another big brother event?  I guess the computers will have to get improved programs.

What is the next thing to happen, we will all be chipped?

Geezer

early SCREAMING system prepared for air travellers

Good. Can we finally drop the COE then? It's  a pain in the arris. Totally unnecessary and something that can be checked by airlines etc and confirmed before departure.

October?

Didn't they just announce, yesterday, that the opening will be push up to November - maybe?

Doesn't appear that some officialdom aren't on the same page as their peers.

No one seems to know what's going on - one way or another.
