Nabby
The morons who run the country would like to think they can shape how Pattaya will turn out, but the hard truth, which they will surely learn, is that they'll have to take whatever they can get. Pattaya is not high on many people's lists, and Thailand is far, far from out of the woods re Covid. Basically, the government has no say in anything re Covid, nor will it have much say in how any region develops post-Covid, if there every is a post-Covid. Thailand's leaders make Cambodia's Big Man look like Steve Jobs or Elon Musk.
koele2
Whenever someone who hasn’t been to pattaya asks a question to someone who has been there, it’s not “where is a good place to eat?” or “what temples or beaches do you recommend?” it’s always some version of “Sex. Where? How much?” Won’t change no matter what they say.

Popular Post mran66
Govt people here as well as in China say what they say, just for the sake of being able to or having to say something to be politically correct. Then, whether it has any relevance or serious intent even in the sayers mind, is completely another issue. This announcement belongs to the same category as the statements like 'no prostitution found in Pattaya', 'Thailand is a democracy', 'RTP is to serve people, etc... Just look where the money comes and goes and why, you can pretty well predict the future regardless of various statements Edited September 27, 2021 by mran66 2
Popular Post FalangJaiDee
I’ve been here since January. There is absolutely NOTHING appealing about Pattaya/Jomtien except for the ease of access to sex with attractive girls within its proximity. In the absence of that. It’s a depressing, dreary, place that feels like it shut years ago. Nothing will bring this place back to life EXCEPT the steady wealth transfer of BOOMER BUX to naive Thai teens for sex. Nope! It’s not the “beach” Nope! It’s not for business Nope! It’s not the uh “attractions” 2

I think the thought persons have their glasses on backwards. When I first visited Pattaya in the 80's it was with my parents and sister, we stayed in a nice resort hotel, enjoyed the pool and the hotel restaurants. We did go to the beach and I recall it was quite nice, but we preferred the hotel pool because you don't get sand all over you. What Pattaya went on to become drove the family type holiday makers away. If Pattaya can reinvent itself as a family friendly resort again it will do much better. 1 1

There are at least five different Pattayas that I know of. Wongamat with its attempt at a Mediterranean upscale resort destination (cheap Monaco), Phratumnak aiming for a Tenerife kind of feel, Jomtien as an old resort town which has settled in its ways (Benidorm?), Dark side which is like many other "normal" Thai towns and then Central Pattaya. Which is like very few other places on earth. And the driving engine behind the economy in all five of these areas. 5

At least the traffic would improve because there would be less people living there as businesses that depend on the mongers would disappear. Go ahead...turn a normally thriving ..pre covid ... world famous resort into a dull " just another Thai seaside...without it being possible to swim in the water.....town.... " A failure ... snatched from the jaws of success. I think every one needs to take a chill pill, nothing will change, it's just the Thai way of saying it doesn't happen and the same people will still be filling their pockets with squeaky clean money. I've lived here over 20 years and I refer it to image laundering. Let's not forget there's no prostitution in Thailand, it only what dirty farangs see in their dreams. Polaky
If this is the direction that they want to head then tourist numbers will never get back to pre covid status, for those that came pre covid, those fond memories will be just that, a bustling entertainment industry killed by covid, never to return to what it once was, pompei done and dusted.

Now back to bar and make up some more fairytales over 8 beers, a Red Label and 5 girls. Pattaya was dying long before covid hit. With the restrictions the present government put on the place. Doubt it will ever be like it used to be. I can remember Soi Buakhao when it was near impossible to to walk down the Soi due to it being packed. About a year before covid hit you could walk down the middle of the Soi ten abreast with out blocking anyone's way of being.
