Australian navy visit cements close ties with Cambodia

Featured Replies

The Australian frigate “HMAS Anzac” arrived in Sihanoukville yesterday to pay a visit to Cambodia for three days as part of its flagship regional engagement activity “Indo Pacific Endeavour 2021”. The ship is 118 metres long, has a beam of 14.8 metres and draws 6.20 metres of water. The Indo Pacific Endeavour 2021 mission is led by Commodore Mal Wise.

The ship was welcomed on arrival by Vice Admiral Ouk Seiha, Deputy Commander of Ream Naval Base. HMAS Anzac also brought with her necessary equipment such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and a number of Covid-19 related medical supplies to donate to the provincial city hall, as well as additional supplies to help the Royal Cambodian Armed Force (RCAF) fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Pablo Kang said,“It is the first time since 2016 that an Australian Navy vessel has come into port in Cambodia, and we look forward to these visits forming a more regular part of our bilateral defence engagement.”
