Why not require insurance while here? Quite frequently, foreigners end up in the hospital here and can't pay.

WHY not require insurance? because no country in the world require insurance from tourists!

so if thailand want to stay competetive, it has to be so.

and it does not mattar for the "foreigners who don't pay". if they

do not pay they do not get treated. that simple. that is what all the world is doing.

50000 US insurance. Is that a step down from the 100,000 covid insurance or full coverage bought in Thailand?

No mention of hotel lockup.

Anutin already mentioned that arrivals will be transported from the airport to the location for their swab test in limousines.

Who will pay for the limousine and who pays for the swab test? One guess?

Transport from swab test location to pre-booked / approved hotel and who pays? One guess?

Number 1 is not a good start for the UK.

"The Saj" indicated 100,000 new infections per day, possibly, this winter.

They say there's 50k a day right now, that's definitely nothing near the actual number of infections, they know it, everyone knows it.

Apart from the kids who are force tested most people are ignoring it. It's treated as a cold unless you get really ill - which is how it happens when you have an actual cold which makes you really ill and you end up in hospital.

I assume the hotel is needed while you wait for the PCR result.

Maybe I worry too much but note: it says bookings in Thailand - emphasis in the s.  At the moment I'm reading that as for your entire stay.  I just hope the final details take account of those with homes in Thailand.

I give up - if this is correct its all a load of rubbish. Blue zones?  This wasn't mentioned before - the original announcment said Thailand was ready to open with NO QUARANTINE. I think I might have been a bit hasty with my booking. Let's see what he confirms.

they give the world a discount. don't you get it? millions of people all over the world

are now reading it and cheer YEEEHHHH, THAILAND GAVE US A LOWER INSURANCE REQUIREMENT !!

BUT seriously, i want to ask for how long the insurance has to be valid?

say i have a non-O visa for another 8 months, but also carry a passport that allow

me visa exempt. can i buy insurance only for , say, 30 days, or will the thai embassy / computer/ IO will tell me: NO YOU MUST HAVE INSURANCE FOR 9 MONTHS ??

Your problem would not be the insurance, but the loss of the non-O visa... you left the country and got stamped out with a re-entry permit. You enter the country with another passport on a visa exempt, therefore you do not have a re-entry stamp on your non-O visa and therefore, this visa is not valid. You will save few bucks on the insurance, but lose your visa.

The UK has experienced 40,000 new cases a day for the past 8 days, many infected are people who have received 2 jabs!

On the plus side it appears that the vaccine is working as there are significantly fewer deaths.

Does Thailand really want these peoples money that bad?

This pandemic is going to drag on well into 2022 because understandably people want to get back to some normality and are ignoring advice and taking short cuts and jumping the gun.

Write this year off get things in place and open early next year.

Why would next year be any different? It's been 2 years now and while vaccination has significantly reduced the death rate nothing else has really changed. Infection rates show no sign of improvement anywhere that allows any half reasonable form of socialising. It's not going away. Repeatedly kicking the can down the road will achieve nothing.

I hadn't noticed that. My guess is that the plural isn't that important and is basically part of the requirements when you come as a tourist as they always want to know where you're staying. However it's never easy to know for sure

Not much detailed info at this point.  My belief is every person who enters the country in the future will be required to have some type of travel or other medical coverage.

for sure, the government have been trying to achieve this for years

Don't tell them that or we'll be back to 7 days quarantine.  I suspect its their way of checking if you picked anything up whilst travelling - which is entirely possible when passing through hubs and sitting tightly packed in an aluminium tube for 12 hours.  What they don't seem to have clicked on is the incubation period, I believe its 2 -3 days before any infection shows up - symptoms come later.

I don't understand any of it to be honest - given the low numbers of fully vaccinated Thai citizens, it should be the tourists who are worried.

It's all about mitigating risks of more virus entering the country. Of course it's a falacy as the virus is already in heavy circulation around Thailand now.

However, because they may want to appease a frightened population, or just appeasing appeasing some in the government to do this test on arrival. This will definatley pick up some cases.

Along with vetting those who tested positive before they leave (thus infecting passengers on their plane), you build up some measures to reduce numbers.

There's also the concern that many PCR tests before departure will be fake - especially from India. So carrying out a test on arrival will give an accurate assesment.

I also don't know if Thailand is doing gene sequencing, but the tests on arrivals can also pick up new variations.

Of course if you live in Nakon Nowhere this might not matter but to be honest you would have run out of money years ago anyway.

That may well be the fall back option for many currently living in say Pattaya.

Does anybody know of a hotel near to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport that can do a pt-pcr test and you can stay for the one day? And if you book for longer (7 day stay ) can check out earlier and get a refund. If your pt-pcr test is negative   This is my burning question. I have a flight booked for 1st of Nov. I can cancel without any problem only 2 hours notice. I don't think this hotel exist.

So who is coming on the 1st Nov. Unless somebody can tell me different, and if the Thai government invent the new app fully working. I really don't think this is going to happen.

Yep, they want risk free tourism - all of the cash, none of the risk.

I can understand it to some extent during this pandemic but I agree, its their aim in all circumstances for the future. They clearly have no comprehension of geese that lay golden eggs.

I guess you've missed all the go fund me posts here over the years?

Now, many countries are requiring insurance due to covid. Many.

I tool another contract job instead of just sitting around with fingers crosses for some common sense from the Thai officials.  That extra PCR test on arrival is a deal breaker for me.

So sorry you won't be coming.  Have you been keeping up on arrival news the past 18 months?

A share of people have arrive in BKK or the Sandbox and tested positive after getting their negative test prior.  A lot can happen within the 72 hour window, seems very naive to think it cannot.

I now see that the Transport Minister has now added to the consternation of many by announcing he would like all Domestic tourists held to the same standards as international travelers as far as being vaccinated and testing via PCR test before traveling by air and train here in Thailand.  I thought you already needed a test to fly whether or not you were vaccinated, at least some air carriers were requiring it.
