KANCHANABURI (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon has inspected the water situation in Kanchanaburi and water management work at Mae Klong Dam and Srinagarindra Dam, assigning agencies to increase collaboration on handling forest runoffs.

The deputy prime minister, in his capacity as the director of the National Water Command, followed up on efforts to prepare retention areas for runoffs and preparations to accommodate next year’s dry season. On this occasion, Gen. Prawit inaugurated a community water transfer system for Thung Krabam subdistrict in Lao Khwan district of Kanchanaburi. He also oversaw the Ministry of Labor’s delivery of floatable toilets to Kanchanaburi province, and met with community leaders to hear about local issues.

Gen. Prawit was briefed about the water situation at Srinagarindra Dam, whose reservoir was holding 5,200 million cubic meters more water than at the same time last year and has significant capacity remaining. The amount of water stored at present was also reported to be enough for next year’s dry season.

During a discussion with officials, Gen. Prawit voiced emphasis on inter-agency collaboration to monitor forest runoffs, strict adherence to incident protocols and rehabilitation of affected people and localities. The deputy prime minister also emphasized addressing recurring drought in 5 districts in Kanchanaburi, and the management of water distribution from the reservoirs at all 3 dams in Kanchanaburi (Srinagarindra, Vajiralongkorn and Mae Klong dams).
