According to Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Malaysia and Singapore are discussing reopening borders via a dedicated air travel lane for vaccinated passengers.

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture said she would meet with Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister today to resolve the situation.

“Through discussion, we will iron out our plans for the travel lane,” she said at a press briefing in Parliament yesterday.

Malaysia plans to reopen its borders to overseas travel as soon as December, with a standard operating procedure in the works.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the trial travel bubble programme for international tourists would begin on November 15 in Langkawi.

Nancy further stated that the proposal to resume tourism activities to international visitors in December would only be implemented when the National Security Council had given its approval (NSC).

“If all goes according to plan, the Prime Minister will announce it,” she added.

Based on the review by the NSC and the Ministry of Health, the minister previously stated that the pilot project in Langkawi will serve as a benchmark for the country to open more travel bubbles in other areas.
