Politician from the opposition parties asked the Governor of Bangkok on Monday why most schools that have returned to normal classes are mostly international schools and asked whether more could be done for less well off schools so they can meet the government’s guidelines for reopening.

“The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced the reopening of 63 schools in 30 districts and they were mostly international schools,” said Arithach Chartariyapong, of the KLA Party.

Thailand reopened its borders to vaccinated travelers on Monday, the same day that schools began returning to regular classes after two years of interruptions due to the pandemic.

Only if you have your passport number and Nationality on your vaccination certificate, which a lot of them don't causing Thailand Passes to be rejected.

Get it together Thailand. ????

Bangkok is now the highest vaccinated Province in Thailand, already overtaken Phuket yet the majority of Public schools are still closed. Unbelievable when its now opened its doors to over 60 countries.

It is because local schools wouldn't have a clue in how to set up class bubbles and to put in place control measures, International schools are smaller and more efficient operation.

Its exactly how the schools are in the middle east my daughter goes to a British int school in Oman, during lockdowns our school was set up perfect for Corona control but as the local schools couldn't place good control measures and would not be able to do this the ministry here just said all schools will close (if local schools cant open no schools will typical ministry carry on here), the last 18 mths my daughter has had about 10 weeks of face to face learning.

Corona is now under control in middle east country's and thank god the schools are back to normal

My Thai sister in law is a teacher at a Govt school. Last Saturday her school was was open for a mass vaccination of students. The only kids being vaccinated were from private schools as none of those studying at Govt schools are being jabbed yet.

Yes, little strange. Where I live the International Schools opened as usual around September 1st, while Thai schools are still only online. All kids - age 12 to 18 - have already been offered first Phizer-jabs shortly after international school opening. I don't know how many Thai kids showed up for jabs at the hospital - but it was crowded - but from my daughter's class in an international school, there were only a couple, so it doesn't seem like foreign, or half foreign, kids were more vaccinated than Thais; In total more than 75 percent of the population over 18 in the area have already been vaccinated, and those that originally got two Sinovac jabs have also been offered a AstraZeneca booster.

The criteria for reopening is limited class sizes - no more than 25 students per class - and the students are supposed to sit 1.5 meters apart.

Most International and some private schools already have smaller class sizes than that and can easily find rooms that are big enough.  Most government school have 35 to 50 students per class and smaller rooms.  Until these criteria are relaxed, the government schools simply cannot open.
