BANGKOK, Nov17 (TNA) – Chulalongkorn University has developed a 3-gene RT-LAMP method to detect COVID-19 infection. The first invention of its kind in Thailand guarantees accuracy, user-friendliness and low costs for convenient use in communities.

As head of the university’s RT-LAMP test development team, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Naraporn Somboonna from the Department of Microbiology of the Faculty of Science at the university said the team added a special capability to the testing method so that it could detect 3 genes of the novel coronavirus and cover its whole life cycle.

Consequently, the testing method was highly effective, did not require any sophisticated instrument, could detect the disease from nasal cavity, throat, saliva and object samples and thus was suitable for mass testing in communities, schools and workplaces. Moreover, the testing method could show results in an hour, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Naraporn said.

I notice that saliva is mentioned   but is it used ?  anytime I see tests being done on TV  it's a  brain tickler being stuffed up the poor victims nose...saliva would seem to me  be the easier, safer more dignified approach.

What's about the "world leaders" in mouthwash, protecting against covid?

Haven't heard anything about it for a long time.

Testing to detect COVID is a whole different matter from treatments designed to prevent or inhibit the virus.

However, FWIW, when I had a routine dental appointment at a BKK private hospital last week, the dentist had me first rinse my mouth with something that at least looked like some kind of Betadine solution (though I don't know and didn't ask exactly what it was), saying it would lessen the chance of COVID  transmission. Of course, I had to be fully vaccinated (I am) or first undergo an ATK test just in order to actually see the dentist.

Here's the last I see on the COVID mouthwash issue from late August in TH and last March from the U.S.:

Let me know when it reaches the market place.
