Hi Everyone,

My wife and I ( both Non Thai) managed to get ourselves stranded outside of Thailand when Covid first hit.

In fact we had seats on just about the last flight into Bangkok but wife developed a bit of a temperature thought better to hold off - turned out just a bad Cold.

We both held 12 month Non Immi 'O' Visa - purpose Retirement via sufficient Funds in Thai Bank.

We had held those for maybe 6 or 7 years - now 'expired'.

The Funds are still there and we have been waiting to get back once more.

On contacting the Thai Embassy UK - it seems that a Health Insurance is now required - plus proof of no Elephantiasis amongst other dodgy diseases.

I am 80 years of age - very fit - generally stated I look early 60s.

Wife mid 60s.

But it now looks to be more or less impossible for said Insurance as there appears to be a 'cut off' point well below my age.

We never bothered with an Insurance before simply using Hospital facillities when needed on rare occassions - busted ankle while out running etc - we have 'external' funding to cover anything serious.

So is a return to Thailand now but a 'distant dream' in my case?

Best to tackle situation once in Chiang Mai?

Anybody know where I can get insurance at 80 - minimum cover necessary will do - aka Third Party Fire and Theft for a car.  ;o)) ??

The last few years in Chiang Mai were some of the best experienced.

Gym - Running - Good Food.

Comments welcome.

Best Rgds.

There are folk on AseanNow now that are familiar with what insurance would be available and suit your needs. Advice will be along. I'm not across it.

OP, that link is for one insurance company.

Someone sent me a link that compares different insurance companies. Can't locate it.

Hopefully someone will post links.

Select 30 coverage.

Yes your planning on non O and followed by extension.

Thats irrelevant just select 30 days. 50k insurance.

That is not just one company it is a group of them that are participating in the covid 19 insurance scheme.

Look in the top left corner and you will see this. image.png.e31f7b58f702b9367af05d2e70e17770.png

You will find this link on many embassy websites. https://covid19.tgia.org/ It has a link to the URL posted.

Hello DrJjack54,

I understand your comment ref 30days 50K insurance - makes sense - but that site also states - have to renew before end of 30 days.

Wife and I are figuring to try for a full Non Immi O Visa for Retirement as we had before for a number of years - we both have sufficient at Thai Banks - does this mean we have to renew Insurance every thirty days?

A bit expensive at over 3000 per 30 days.

I am 80 - generally considered 50sh - full head of hair etc - wife much younger.

Best Rgds.

That does not mean you have to get another 30 days of insurance. It means you cannot apply for additional insurance after it expires,

Sorry to come back on this - but just to clarify.

So I take out the insurance - as I understand - it lasts for the 30 days that one would normally be staying if coming for a holiday.

My intention >> arrive 30 days Visa waiver >>  extend 90 days ->> 12 month Retirement Visa basd on Bank Balance.

Do I have to take out further insurance to extend it and at which point?

Is it now a requirement for all who stay long term?

Best Rgds

With every post you get younger. How do you do it?

Just checked in the mirror - how about 70s?

I put it all down to Chiang Beer previously consumed - but did you ever read 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray'   - Oscar Wilde - that worries me.  ;o))

Yes

You will apply for a non-o visa that will allow a 90 day stay not a extension. You must have at least 15 days remaining on your 30 day visa exempt entry or the 30 day extension of it when you apply for the non-o visa.

Then you would then apply for a one year extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon retirement during the last 30 days or when you have the 800k baht in the bank for 2 months.
