PHUKET: National Ombudsman Assoc Prof Issari Hunsajaroonroj has instructed the Phuket office of the Highways Department to expedite its project to make the road over Kata Hill, from Chalong to Kata, safer following the outside lane collapsing in October last year.

Assoc Prof Issari inspected the state of the road yesterday (Nov 19), accompanied by Phuket Highways Office Chief Samak Luedwonghat and his superior Yasin Chonpatathip, Director of the Office of Highways Region 17, along with Suebpong Paisanwattana, Director of the Office of Safety Administration.

Phuket Highways Office Chief Mr Samak in April this year assured motorists that the road is safe to use, despite the westbound section of the road being reduced to one lane.

The road has been a desaster at least for the last 2 decades. It doesn't need any Ombudsman to figure this out. If local politicians wouldn't spend the allocated funds on Mia Noi and Mia Ciao, the status of the road could be very much different.

National ombudsman association??

Curious as there is a government agency called the Office of the Ombudsman consisting of four ombudsmen.

As a result of NCPO's rewrite of the Constitution, the Ombudsmsn has only authority to investigate citizen complaints, gather information and send a report to the government (Office of the PM, etc.). It lost it's power to file a lawsuit on behalf of citizens against the government.

The so-called NOA appears to have no authority to order any government agency to perform any action relative to the Constitution.

A slippery little snake when its starting to rain that's for sure !

Let Prayuth handle this, he can pass a law making dying on the hill illegal.

A 20,000 baht fine, and or 6 months in the can for losing your life should put an end to the problem
