snoop1130
Cambodian prisoners on a prisoner truck arrive at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021. More than a dozen activists who were former members of the dissolved opposition party appeared at the court for a bail hearing. (AP Photo/Heng Sinith) UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, on Tuesday issued a statement deploring Thailand’s deportation of a Cambodian refugee, which occurred only ten days after the authorities deported two other Cambodian refugees. “This action contravenes the principle of non-refoulement, which obliges States – including Thailand – not to expel or return people to a territory where their life or freedom would be threatened,” reads the statement. Thailand is not a party in the 1951 Refugee Convention and still does not recognise the refugee status, resulting in refugees being treated as illegal immigrants by the authorities and detained in immigration detention centres (IDCs) and being sent back to the countries they were fleeing from. Popular Post Tropicalevo
Amazing that the RTP can catch these 'criminals' for their friends but they cannot catch Red Bull's Boss, who killed a policeman. 5

Of little consequence, as he's already paid them off. Priorities.

Forlorn wish but I can't help but envy Thailand for steadfastly giving this convention a wide berth. It has imperiled the national security and welfare system of many a country in Europe. 2 1

Srikcir
It is only in the story title by Thailand news that mentions "dismayed", ie., as in a U-turn in policy. Thailand's action was entirely consistent with the military regime's treatment of refugees from totalitarian countries such as China, Mynamar and North Korea. Better to say "disappointed" that Thailand will not reverse its policy and no wonder that the UNHCR continues to discredit Thailand's HCR beginning with Prayut's regime.
