What do your Friends and Family say about you? What do they Whisper? After you have bugged out to Thailand, Never to return. Do they think you are crazy? 50 Years is not Short Time, Baby

What do they say when you just bag it in?

Do you ever keep in touch?

These days, it is far easier to keep in touch.

50 years ago, even fax machines were the size of a refrigerator.

No.  Back in the day, we used telex to keep in touch.

Why, I can recall those years, almost as clear as mud.

I had a telex machine in my guest room.  And, when the messages would come in from my friends, the machine would make enough noise to wake the dead.

But, I guess, these days, it is easier to keep in touch.

Still, do you?

Do you keep in touch?

Personally, I like the good old days of telex machines.  Because, back in the day, when we used telex machines, there were very few who had them.

And, therefore, not much opportunity to pass useless messages back and forth from Asia to wherever.

How fondly I recall the good old days when....suddenly....the telex machine would start jumping up and down, waking the guys sleeping on the floor below.

Also, if you are old enough.  Do you remember the yellow tape?

I mean, when you tried to type a long message, of about three pages, then the yellow tape would extend all over the place.

I mean, if you wanted to send a chapter of a book, via telex, then you would have MILES and MILES of yellow tape with holes punched in it.

Man!

Them were the good old days.

So, back to the question.  What do your friends and family have to say about you, after you have already left your roots, for about 30, or 40, or 50 years?

Do they still send you telex messages?

Or,

Do they not even contact you, at all.

Also, where did all those telex machines go?

Unfortunately, there are very few photos of the telex machines we once used...available on the internet.

Probably, everyone here should be thankful that just one decent has been found.

Probably no one here has ever used a telex machine like this.

Very LOUD.

So, what we would do is, if one had a telex machine at home, and if one's girlfriend had a telex machine in her bedroom, then we would just send telexes back and forth.

Or, if one had a business acquaintance, then we would send telexes to them, as well.

We would send orders for things like jewelry.

The two machines remained connected.

And so, it was easy to type back and forth, as i am doing now. but in real time.

I would imagine that no one here has ever used a telex machine.

2 brothers are envious, but rooted (family) and can't leave the USA.

1 brother is too Hi-So to move to a 3rd world slum.

Keep in touch ? .... only reason I'm on FB

I used to repair them as an engineer with Post Office Telephones (pre BT). Glad to see the back of them, they can't hold a candle to WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

They were replaced by fax machines using thermal paper. I used to book a hotel room by fax 20 years ago.
