snoop1130
BANGKOK (NNT) - The tourism sector is starting to show signs of a gradual recovery, owing to the reopening of the country to international tourists on November 1. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports views the development positively, as tourism revenue is important for the dissipation of income into localities. Thailand will now need to keep its sight set on restoring the tourism industry into a primary driver of its economy. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports intends to drive tourism under the concept ‘Amazing Thailand New Chapter’ in the year 2022. A new image of tourism in Thailand will be presented by many parties in the tourism circle, and tourism-related businesses will develop their products and services in response to the requirements of tourists in the New Normal era. Emphasis will be placed on health and safety as said businesses make use of technology to improve their products and services toward higher standards. Meanwhile, tourism sites will be developed under adherence to the Green Economy principle so Thailand is able to compete with other countries which are also reopening to international tourists. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has determined that Thailand’s tourism development will, from now on, be made with an aim of increasing the adaptability of the industry. At the same time, a Thai identity will be retained as the industry develops in response to New Normal requirements. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is aiming to realize 1.5 trillion baht of tourism revenue in 2022, which would be 50% of the pre-pandemic figure in 2019 when about 3 trillion baht of revenue was generated. The TAT is also targeting a revenue figure of 2.4 trillion baht in 2023, and about 3 trillion baht for the year after. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-11-25 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Popular Post ArcticFox
The government has essentially destroyed the essence and character of the Thailand that tourist came to experience. Now that they have sterilized the country of lower and middle class businesses they can concentrate on creating Thailand in the image of New Normal elitists in the hopes of drawing the uber-wealthy tea-toddlers while discouraging any of the Old Normal riff-raff. They are going to go broke. That upscale, green, new-normal isn't going to work. And imho, that's fine.

OK, so let's assume that is a REAL - and not laughable - goal. Based on half the 2019 figures, I imagine the target would be 19,000,000 tourists for 2022. Allowing for 300k Jan to march each month (yeah, I doubt they'll hit that figure) , that will leave then needing over 2 million tourists a month for the rest of the year, or 66% of the pre 2019 figures which would be about 3 million a month. I would imagine the TAT are looking at something like this (red 2022).I just cannot see it happening unless the thai pass farce is removed by end Jan for people to plan.
Popular Post brommers
Just another vaguely drafted press release from a mob who have damn all knowledge of running any kind of business let alone a ravaged tourism business. And as for adaptability and the use of technology they have to be dreaming. Thai tourism is built on the entrepreneurial flair of a million highly adaptable but now bankrupted people that some vague mutterings will not help. And quite where technology fits in has not been explained in any way, probably because they have no idea. TAT want to throw millions of baht into hiring an Italian opera singer and they have the temerity to mention retaining Thainess. They are beyond a joke. 5
Paul Henry
No change , just another lot of window dressing from TAT. They never give specific actions to improve tourism or service. They even admit in this article that that Thai tourism standards are R*T S**T and they will use new technology to improve it. Guess we will see robots serving in restaurants and robots in mini skirts at the bars. This will be the start of the new Thailand holiday experience. Thank god there is no prostitution in Thailand otherwise the robot idea would never work. One good thing would be if they replaced most government employees (not workers) with robots we may see some common sense ideas implemented. KhunLA
He wasn't talkin % of GDP, just % of baht influx. Good luck with those numbers. Be lucky to get 1 million true tourist a year, within the next 5 year, if nothing major changes.

Is this another way of saying, dual pricing along with all the other usual scams are being "retained?"

Grusa
I knew it would be a couple of minutes wasted if I clicked the link. I really should learn from my mistakes........ if it mentions TAT, it's tat.
newnative
Blah, blah, blah. I didn't notice any predictions on tourist numbers for 2022 in the article, just easily forgotten revenue predictions.
