British Airways suspends all flights to Bangkok until Oct 2022

British Airways has suspended all direct flights from the UK to Bangkok until October 2022.

Reports of the cancellations first surfaced on social media earlier this week.

Travel site, The Points Guy, then received confirmation from BA that the flights have been canceled.

A spokesperson for BA said: “We apologise to customers whose travel plans are disrupted. Where a customer’s flight is cancelled, we always contact them to offer options including a full refund.  Customers who are unable to travel, or choose not to, can also continue to change their flights or request a voucher for future use as part of our Book with Confidence policy, which has been available since the beginning of the pandemic.”

Passengers have also posted on the FlyerTalk forum to say they had received confirmation from British Airways that their flights to Bangkok had been canceled.

As an alternative, passengers had been offered flights to Doha with Qatar with a connecting flight to Bangkok.

One passenger wrote: So I’m on the phone to BA now. We were booked on Avios outbound Mar 23 and return Apr 5, both cancelled of course. The slightly unhelpful Gold line agent lady says we can get you out on Qatar but the alternative carrier policy is only to Mar 31 so we can’t bring you back! I’m now talking with a supervisor who’s checking with the global team. Any advice appreciated…”

The news comes as British Airways announced earlier this month that it was scrapping more than 2,000 flights from its schedule between now and March next year.

The cancellation of flights was due to reduced demand for air travel during the ongoing pandemic.

Aviation website Simply Flying reported that data from Cirium revealed that BA had cut 2,144 flights from its winter schedule.

Flights have been canceled on domestic, short haul and long haul routes.

Passengers affected by the cancellations are advised to check the status of their bookings via the BA website. Passengers who were due to travel before 31 August 2022 can apply for a voucher that is valid until 30 September 2023.

They must have taken a long hard look at the prospects for any resurgence in tourism here...

  • Not at all, this means there will be more room on the tarmac for all the private jets .........................LOL

  • LATEST LATEST LATEST   TaT just announced that it must be fake news as 200 Trillion bookings are already made and all Thai airports soon in full capacity.

Wow.

At least they are being transparent and not stringing consumers along month by month.

Pretty sure they'll still operate cargo through SBIA-BKK (LHR-BKK-HKG).

A bit more difficult now for the uber-rich British tourists to get here.

Which airline will be the next one to cancel?

Any other ideas TAT?

They've all got Omicron so best they stay away.

Another nail in TAT's coffin.

Best of British fails the Brits, but what are people moaning about how bad it is for Thailand. Instead of being outraged at a Brit company.

I mean looks bad for a company to do such a thing. Bad times a head. I read today the UK is overrun by by covid. Not much different in the Netherlands there is full lockdown.

BA have been Spanish owned for some time, it's not a British company

Eventually the reduced international travel will result in the near collapse of the airline industry and you'll be able to pick up a slightly used Boeing 777 for the price of a caravan.

Yeah, the long-haul, international self-loading freight (leisure and business) faces significant hurdles in a long, long term recovery.

Domestic airlines are faring better, certainly in the U.S.

International air-cargo has worked out well for some operators.

Well, that sends an unequivocable message about any significant recovery in the short term, at least as far as the UK market is concerned.

Just as well nobody uses them. Awful airline.

Dreadful bad- service outdated airline. Would have folded years ago but for that foreign takeover. Can’t fault safety record though…… only used BA once LDN -  BKK direct when EVA strike cancelled my flight. THAI just as bad. Best to fly EVA or with one stopover via Europe or Gulf.

I would argue a book with confidence program involve no risk of flight cancellation.

Hope they don’t take ‘months’ to refund like all other carriers have during Covid.

An airline which does this looses loyalty as future confidence in the carrier wanes.

Meanwhile other carriers offer reliable solutions (i.e. Finn / Emirates/ Qatar), not direct, but reliable.

Does this also mean the UK thinks Thailand is going to remove it from the Covid green list ???

Owned by IAG, and is a PLC.

When EVA Cancelled my flight for Cabin Crew Strike action, had to APPLY on their website for a Refund ! Not Automatic. Paid in few days though.
Lufthansa offer best overall one -stop flight LDN - BKK via Europe in my experience. Hear Etihad via Abu Dhabi is best overall.

Most informed British travelers avoided BA.

Probably the worst direct flight from the UK out of the bunch and generally most expensive.   No loss.

My family are now booked for October as February flight cancelled.

I had a family group of friends coming back early Jan, not sure what they are going to do yet, the daughter is due back in school here to, hope they manage another arrangement they are bringing me back some "sugar puffs" or should I say "Honey Monster Puffs" breakfast cereal, one of my favourites, lol

There's 4 that were coming other flights are a ridiculous return cost.

My daughter gets concessions for her and family because she use to work for BA.

My middle son will probably find another way and come on his own we haven't seen each other in person over forty years.

Pretty soon, the only way to get here will be by tramp steamer.

One point though (and they're far from awful just another internet myth perpetuated this last 20 years that has now become an internet fact instead)

If you're in the air and the aircraft goes Tech what airline and flight crew would you want to be on to give you the best possible chance of getting safely to the ground.............................British Airways every time.

Now imagine you're on Thai International with Somchai and his bike spanners

( KLM kept flying in and out the whole epidemic using the  combination cargo & passenger ...., and not anymore daily but anyway several times a week )
