HIV outbreak in Issan. Do you always test first or use condoms in Thailand.
It doesn't seem to get much of a mention here, but apart from STD's, there are potential problems related to unwanted pregnancies. Not sure at all on those women who are "on the pill" or some other system of pregnancy prevention these days! I am happy to be enlightened! -

Report Woman in Phayao Narrowly Avoids Collision with Giant King Cobra
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod A surprising encounter on a rural road in Phayao left a woman shaken after a near miss with a giant king cobra. The unsettling incident unfolded on 4th June, between Ban Wang Bong and Ban Huai Son, when the 3-metre-long serpent suddenly appeared, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. "I’ve never seen a snake that big before," said the woman, still visibly shaken by the experience. "It was enormous. I had no idea what to do." The dramatic moment occurred as she was driving along the tranquil road, initially noticing another vehicle stopped ahead. Unaware of any unusual circumstances, she attempted to overtake, only to encounter the king cobra crossing her path. Typically found in Thailand's southern regions, this sighting in Phayao was unexpected and alarming. The massive snake's imposing size and sudden appearance caused panic as it raised its distinctive hood, prompting the woman to brake sharply. Her car skidded perilously close to the roadside, but she managed to avoid hitting the snake. "It was pure instinct," she recounted. "I had to stop right there, or I would’ve hit it." Once the cobra safely slithered into the nearby forest, the woman remained in her car, relieved but frazzled. "I’m just glad I didn’t hit it. It could have been dangerous for both of us," she expressed with a sigh of relief. Conscious of the potential threat the snake posed, she promptly informed local residents and advised them to remain vigilant. "It’s not something you expect to see here," she remarked, cautioning the community about the rare snake sighting. "This snake could come back, and we need to be cautious. I don’t want anyone else to be caught off guard." The incident has heightened awareness in the area, prompting local officials to warn about the potential danger of wildlife on the roads, urging drivers to exercise caution in rural areas where such encounters are rare but possible. Report Danish Man Disappears Amid Extortion Fears in Southern Thailand
Really? I worked there for a spell and never encountered anything viscous (sic). The owner of the hotel I stayed at was the gorgeous mia luang for some ranking local cop, but that never got in the way of our... special relationship. -

Recent trip to UK with Qatar air- A very sad, heartbreaking visit.
Your statement is partially correct but contains inaccuracies and oversimplifications: Coverage Breakdown: The claim that “virtually everyone” without employer coverage is on government plans is false, as 10.2% have private direct-purchase plans, and 7.7% are uninsured. The percentages (20% Medicaid, 20% Medicare, 54% employer-based) are close but slightly off (18.9%, 18.9%, 53.7%). The remaining 6–8% includes both uninsured and privately insured individuals, not just the uninsured. Affordability and Bankruptcy: The government’s role in private insurance costs is overstated; systemic factors like provider prices also drive costs. Self-employed individuals who skip insurance are at risk of bankruptcy, but no data isolates them as the primary group. Emergency care is guaranteed, but non-emergency care is not. Asset protections exist but vary by state, making the claim about homes and vehicles partially true. Remaining Population: After 53.7% (employer-based), 18.9% (Medicaid), and 18.9% (Medicare), about 8.5% remain, including 7.7% uninsured and 10.2% with direct-purchase plans, with some overlap. -
