Does it function now?

Pixel Experience looks pretty good?

Yes it is fully functioning now, still in its original state - have not touched it as yet in terms of using it (aside from some test photos), waiting to see how I can best configure it but time is running out....

Sorry, what's the time pressure?

Custom ROMs are cool, more so if you a hobbyist and can update them daily or weekly as issues arise and new releases are offered. "Oh, WiFI doesn't work, dang I hope the developer fixes that soon."

You should not expect full functionality.

Once you settle on a ROM make sure you read all the sub-forums which detail that ROM before choosing to flash it.

I used adb to remove a lot of the bloatware on my Vivo phone.

So did I after learning from another thread here.

That's the way to go.

If you can't do on your own you need to find someone who knows his job.

No Google at all? Good luck going without Playstore.

DON'T root! Endless potential threats and certain apps will simply refuse to work on a rooted phone (some banking apps e.g.).

Thanks for the input, yea the need to be a hobbiest to keep reasonable functionality will steer me away from this option, I cannot devote time to that.  So I will find some middle ground that looks like it likely involves google apps staying, but being disabled/unused.

The time pressure is my own, bought the phone over a month ago and have been trying to close on a solution and want to move forward.

I suppose for google-light the way to go will be huawei (or see what else comes out in the next few years).

Cheers

Thanks. Preferably I find someone that is familiar with the process and have them do it. Since I embarked on this idea I am more interested than ever what a google free world is like...how much of a strangle hold do they really have, try to find out.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro is a good phone for the money paid. ????

Well here we are years later...I never did purge the bloat on the note 10 but now bought a note 13 and wondering once again if I should this time or not lol. All original status and concerns still in place, I did not advance my knowledge further. As for the note 10, looks like it lasted about 3 years, 273 thb/month in hardware cost... reasonable for performance...

I've just used this software to partially debloat my new Vivo phone. When I say partially, I mean I was able to remove/disable a most apps I didn't want. Its basically a front end for ADB commands, which is what I normally use.

https://adbappcontrol.com/en/

Supposedly works for all android devices

Based on what you said I would go with @Mutt Daeng suggestion above. I still use a Redmi Note 8 rooted as my daily driver but eventually had to buy another phone to use the scb banking app as became too difficult to game it - has no Google apps on it at all.

I ended up with a Motorola, but same principles, and used ADB to get rid of or hide what I could that could not be done in Settings.  So no Chrome, Gmail etc. The only specific Google apps I kept are Play Store and Play Services.

I also installed Rethink DNS (https://rethinkdns.com/ but I think also available from the Play store ) and this can help stop data from being sent out from other apps that have no need to do so. As it takes over the vpn channel I need to suspend it when using the scb app.

If you do get stuck into removing/hiding some of the default and or system apps make sure you have installed an alternative first. Eg. I deleted Chrome but had downloaded the Brave browser instead. Contacts was replaced with Open Contacts, SMS with Quik, photos/Gallery with QuickPic Gallery and I even managed to change G Board (the keyboard app) for OpenBoard Valencia. Just depends how far you want to go.

Huge no. of generally unknown open source apps on here - https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/

Best of luck.

Great input from you and mutt thanks. I have gone thru 200 pages of settings and disabled so much, wow they are so totally overboard now, it's ridiculous. Phone runs like crap maybe because I restricted so much. Interested in the adb approach. Past few days a prompt to update android to muiu hyper os has appeared. Looking at people's comments on that, to see if I should. Afraid that will change all the options I changed..,ah yes oh well see what looks like best next step, cheers for the comments.

I ended up rooting my Redmi (4 years ago) after only 3 months due to the amount of what I conceived as rubbish on it even then. Huge improvement after.

That is unfortunate as it should be the reverse. My Moto seems ok but I am not using it for much other than banking so not a fair comparison.
