There is a proverb in Thai that is the equivalent of searching for a needle in a haystack - looking for a needle in the ocean.

That might need to be changed to "looking for a ring in a waterfall" after what happened at a Thai national park over the last few days.

Nit Phokul from Huay Khwang in Bangkok was on a visit to a fast moving waterfall in the Khlong Lan National Park in Kamphaengphet in the north west of Thailand at the end of last week when she slipped.

A one karat gold ring with ten diamonds slipped off her finger and appeared to be lost for good.

But freelance diver Peck Khanyok was allowed to search by park authorities and within 35 minutes found the ring using metal detection equipment.

It was all smiles as Peck and a happy Nit posed for the cameras in pictures published by Sanook.

Wonder if the detector spike was "gold plated metal"?
