Unprovoked attacks occur everywhere, but regardless whether that’s true or not, this guy is an idiot to sit alone drinking on the beach at 11pm.

It used to be commonplace, although small groups were more so. Sad change if you think it dangerous.

So the Thai guys attacked him because he looked older than he actually was?

No, @HAPPYNUFFwas amazed only two confronted this Swiss man, I meant for a man that's 49 he looks old and out of shape, probably hasn't done a proper sit-up in decades, so the Thais didn't feel the need for more guys.

There is ALWAYS a reason and it usually involves the farang doing something stupid or being an ahole.

As there is always a reason for uneducated fools to make a stupid comment on Thai Visa? Is that what you mean, or did I miss something?

Seems one of the safest place for a crime or selling your body is actually outside the police station !

Yeah, yeah! Just read the sign. Protect and serve. Doesn´t stand anything about catch and arrest there.

If the report is accurate it would seem the reason is that he [the victim] was there....

Good enough! ????

BTW: he’s not slouching in his chair, he’s getting something out of his handbag.

Maybe this is why he was attacked, high dollar handbag?

Not sure why men bother with these tbh, never found the need for one myself, plus they're a tad well, you know....

RE - There is ALWAYS a reason

* Yes, you have right - it's always a reason for everything

RE - and it usually involves the farang doing something stupid or being an ahole

* Not necessarily since the term "unprovoked violence" actually exist for a reason ...

I would say the reason could be some deep seated hatred of foreigners and a need to vent... so that's also a reason. People hating foreigners is a problem in most countries.

I'm not sure if it's wise to admit to drinking beer on the beach (which is illegal) to the police. What happened before is anyone's guess, I'd like to hear the other side of the story.

"Restaurants" close at 9pm, this happened at 11pm, probably mostly drunk people still out and about by that time nowadays.

I thought wearing no mask and drinking beer on the beach at 11 pm was illegal. Most porobably he was kicked out of bar at 9 pm (current law)  but wanted to continue drining on the beach, IMHO the Swedish man appears to be completely unaware of his environment and the public's paranoia (thai and foreigner) toward covid. The typical attitude of an uneducated foreigner of wanting everyone to see the world as he sees it.  He said he was just chilling out drinking a beer ... I doubt it. Most probably by 11 pm he was drunk as a skunk and bothering the freelancers on the beach, and making himself a target. The way he is slouching on the chair in the police station it appears he is completely drunk and anything that comes out of his mouth should be taken with a grain of salt!

"Objection your honour, conjecture."

"Sustained."

Are you allowed to drink beer on a public beach that time of night ..?.

Some here are saying it's illegal but they're wrong, there is no restrictions on drinking alcohol outside alone in Pattaya no matter what time of day or night.
