Hello. I'm an American living in Nakhon Si Thammarat and would like to adopt my wife's 8 year old daughter.   I have an non O visa and we are planning in staying in Thailand. Has anyone been this path before?

I had a lawyer look into it. Main question is, whether there is a father on the birth certificate. If yes, he must either voluntarily give up his rights OR be removed by a court, IF there is compelling reason for that (I.e. sexual predator).

In our case, the biological father said "yes, if you pay me...", which was the end of the discussion. 

How did it go? My gf is going to adopt her niese now, and I will maybe adopt her after we get married to secure her two passports for future before she gets 18.

 

This is of practical reasons for study, travel etc in Europe or world. Opens up possibilities for her.
