Hi all,

we have a small fish pond, 8x8x2 m, and I would like to find some fish that does not taste like "earth". Any suggestion appreciated

Thanks

You can raise tilapia but would need to install a net cage from preventing them to feed from the ground. Also putting them in a clear water tank a few days before slaughter removes some of the bad smell I've been told.

Snakehead fish (Pla Chon) are another alternative. Their meat is delicious. However they are territorial and need higher protein feed or small fish waste. If you raise only a few together with tilapia it's usually a balanced system. But don't expect big tilapia as in the market in this extensive system. They will only reach hand palm size

Are those produced from fish food mix or natural feeding on weeds and whatever they find?

Just give them a few handful of grain every evening. We set out 200 only, since only for us. We will ad 50 cat fish now since they are grown and also have offsprings that cat fish can pray on.
