Sorry if this sounds like a repeat of my last question.

My wife has just been invited to attend her British citizenship ceremony next week and we are supposed to be going to Turkey on the 15th Feb.

i understand that my wife needs to give up her Biometric Resident card after the ceremony, So i have been searching for information regarding travelling after the ceremony and before getting her UK Passport and their is little information apart from a few phone numbers for immigration uk which was a waste of time.

Has anyone traveled and returned back into the UK after the ceremony?

Just to update, I have spoken to uk visas and immigration/passport control , He says this is a very grey area and advised from travel since my wife is still on a thai passport and without her Biometric card, She maybe denied entry.............  No not worth the risk

Could your wife not travel to Turkey on her Thai passport instead? According to the following Turkish MFA link, in the case of Thailand "Ordinary passport holders are exempted from visa for their travels up to 30 days":-

https://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-information-for-foreigners.en.mfa

That said, however, might she then be likely to experience problems in re-entering the UK without a British passport? In this connection, does your statement "She maybe denied entry" relate to Turkey or to the UK? If the former I can't see what the problem would be; but if the latter it could be potentially very serious, of course.

It was entering back into the UK that would be the issue since the Citizenship supersedes the biometric card and in the worse case , My wife would be sent back to turkey ..... at some point.

Regards the interview for the passport, I have looked through the application and they want to know everything, wouldn't you thought that been granted citizenship would have been enough

Having just watched a Youtube clip, My wife is going to struggle answering those questions especially regarding gas supplying, Broadband provider and things related to household bills......

You are in a "Catch-22" until your wife receives her British passport, because once she is a British Citizen she has "Right of Abode" in the UK, and does not require Leave to Enter from an Immigration Officer. Presumably that it why they have taken her Biometric Residence Card off her.

She would be entitled to arrive at the UK Border and demand entry as a British Citizen by presenting evidence of her identity and her naturalisation certificate. However, few if any airlines would take the risk of allowing her to board. So she can only wait until she has received her British passport. In normal times that wouldn't take long, but the Passport Agency has hit on the jolly wheeze adopted by most of the Civil Service of pretending to "work from home", so applicants for such as passports and driving licences have been subjected to massive inconvenience. You have my sympathies.

Thanks for your reply

Just reading up and read the following

After you get your certificate

You must send your biometric residence permit (BRP) back to the Home Office within 5 working days of getting your certificate of British citizenship.

Cut your BRP into 4 pieces and put it in a windowless envelope.

Include a note saying you’re returning your permit because you’ve become a citizen. Include your name, date of birth and the document number (found on the front of the card) in the note.

Naturalisation BRP Returns
PO Box 195
Bristol
BS20 1BT

You’ll be fined up to £1,000 if you do not return your permit within 5 working days

So you definitely cant be taking off on a holiday if your on a Thai Passport.

Reading last night , A few people are getting their new passports within 2 to 3 weeks,  Least with the UK passport , You can just about travel anywhere , When my wife first came to the UK, She got into watching benidorm, So i might take her there for a holiday !!!   However , We are looking at thailand in October for 60 days ...

I understand that online applications go through quite quickly, but those are only for renewing passports, not first-time applicants.

I didn't know they are so keen to get the Biometric Card back - "Welcome new British Citizen, here's £1000 fine."

If only we could apply online from Thailand....

The only thing I would add here is that it is still not normal to have an interview even for a first British passport. Some people do get one but only a few. Entering the UK as a British citizen on a foreign passport is certainly not advisable. Having said that as a British citizen she would be absolutely entitled to entry into the UK and they could not refuse entry. They could however make things rather difficult and unnecessarily unpleasant at border control.
