Thai Rath reported that Plaengyao police in Chachoengsao in central/eastern Thailand were called to a factory in the area after an aluminium smelting machine exploded during repairs to a gas pipe.

Though the machine had been switched off it is thought that residual gas in the system ignited.

Dead at the scene was 47 year old Charnchai. The force of the explosion of the gas - used to fuel the machine - had blown his clothes off.

Four others were taken to Bhudasothon Hospital with serious injuries.
