Chumaporn Taengkliang, a prominent activist on feminism and LGBT issues, reveals the struggles, including the problems with which women and non-binary genders have to deal, because some people do not understand their social movement.

While many other developed countries have already legalised same-sex marriage, Thailand is still in the fight for equal rights for all genders. Currently, neither the draft marriage equality nor the draft civil partnership bills have passed their first readings in parliament.

Whether the whole society is to blame or not, many activists like Chumaporn believe that the patriarchal system is the root cause of mistreatment and prejudice against women and other genders.

Not sure <15% of the world's countries, 29, counts as "many", though I guess it's a start, and not every state or province in those countries allows SSM:

"As of 2021, same-sex marriage is legally performed and recognized in 29 countries (nationwide or in some jurisdictions) with the most recent being Costa Rica in 2020."

the patriarchal system is the root cause of many things, not just those listed above.

Perhaps not, but they sure as hell can keep you from exercising those rights.

I think she means "No-one should be able to take your rights away from you".

Because if the last 2 years has taught us anything, it's that governments can take away our rights, indeed our basic freedoms very easily. Sadly, once the fear has been amped up to a sufficient level, the majority roll over to have their tummy's tickled with barely a murmur.

Thai motto: "Clawing back rights since 1932".

Rights are dispensed based on position in the pyramid. Those closer to the top sup at the Rights Buffet, those at the bottom enjoy crumbs.

This is the very foundation of the thai social contract. If everyone had equal rights the country might implode.

Just look at the latest iteration of a constitution, and I'm paraphrasing...

Everyone has equal rights except....

followed by 109 sections limiting those rights.

excerpts

Section 4. Human dignity, rights, liberties and equality of the people shall be protected.

Section 5. The Thai people, irrespective of their origins, sexes or religions, shall enjoy equal protection under this Constitution.

and the kicker:

Section 28. A person can invoke human dignity or exercise his rights and liberties in so far as it is not in violation of rights and liberties of other persons or contrary to this Constitution or good morals.

1. Well said, Sir.

2. The activist gets a chance from a news service to put forward their view, and then seems to muck up the main message.

3. Perhaps Thai doesn't have modal verbs.
