If you wanted any evidence of one of the reasons there is so much trash washed up on Thai beaches look no further than a story published by Siam Rath yesterday.

A householder in Chumphon on the banks of the Sawee River heard some loud noises and started filming as a person in a black pick-up started dumping large plastic bin bags in the river.

After the dumper fled the scene they managed to retrieve two of the bags with sticks but the other three floated away out to sea.

The bags contained all manner of household trash.

Suphawat, 44, went on Facebook on a local page and asked the media to tell people not to do this.

The river is used by many people to fish and maintain their livelihoods, he said.

Just go to any Village, travel around the small side roads and dirt tracks.

It wont take you long to find the local Dumping site, which is usually a large hole or depression in the ground.

And all that trash dumped into those holes will leach into the ground and go down into the Water table.

5 Bags of Trash !

I have personally have witnessed 15 Truck loads of Trash in a single Day go into a Hole near my House

Hey not only Thai will do so.

Every year 5 million TONS of plastic is dumped into the water.

Meaning criminals getting rich on dumping it.

Can you imagine that pile of plastic in your garden?

5 islands as big as Texas floating in the oceans, merely Great pacific, where all is concentrating due to streams.

unfortunately it will never stop, people are just plain stupid, the good news is that whatever is done, the planet will survive, its just that humans wont, which probably isnt such a bad solution ????

Self-extinction.

Does have a very human ring to it doesn't it?

If world, and Thai pollution were as simple as dumpers liked this. Unfortunately the issue is endemic to our entire way of life not down down to a few individuals. This is yet again another social indicator of just how denialist, and entrenched we are about the way we interact with and rape the world on which we rely for our very existence.

Long enough to see your rant too many times.  Do you cut and paste or type it fresh each time?  Hard to think even you are not yet tired of it.

It's what 'ignore user' lists are made for.

This current administration is infamous for pledges, declarations, proclamations and promises.

You forgot vows. Every time they vow to do something - which they do a lot - you can bet your life it will never get done, not even a little fraction of it.

Thanks for your feedback. Some things bear repeating! You are welcome to block me if seeing a similar post bugs you so much.

True. And even if some effort is made, Prayuth is the king of NOT FOLLOWING UP. He never insures that a proposal, declaration, or promise is carried out. Just empty words, from an empty suit. Two weeks later, all is forgotten.

So land fill?  So just like most western countries then?   Its not just Thailand.

You give Dear Leader and his cronies way too much credit, I’d be surprised if they remembered two minutes later what they had promised or vowed or whatever.

Tempting as it is to blame the current bunch, they're just carrying on a decades (centuries?) long tradition.
