Daily News reported that drinkers would be happy after certain regulations pertaining to the consumption of alcohol were eased in the Thai capital Bangkok.

From today drinkers will be able to enjoy alcohol up to 11 pm.

But it appeared not to relate to all bars or clubs that remain shut.

The order #51 announced by governor Gen Aswin Kwanmuang after a meeting refers to SHA+ approved settings at places like department stores, hotels, seminars, parties, community malls, trade areas and other associated meeting places.

The media didn't explain exactly what this meant - instead going with a picture from Phuket rather than Bangkok.

So somebody connected high up wants to organise private and or corporate keggers, and needs to be able to serve alcohol until 11pm.

Alcohol may be served until 11pm at events in Bangkok from Tuesday

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced the further easing of COVID-19 restrictions. Meetings, conferences and events can now be held in hotels, convention and exhibition centres and shopping malls until 11pm, with alcoholic drinks allowed.

Alcohol may be consumed at the event up to 11pm, but only in venues which meet the “SHA PLUS” or the “Thai Stop COVID 2 Plus” standards.

This BMA’s latest announcement, effective today (Tuesday), is the 51st for the capital’s COVID-19 measures. According to the 44th announcement issued on October 15th, 2021, such venues were allowed to open only until 10 pm with a ban on alcohol consumption imposed. The latest announcement is part of a gradual move to ease restrictions on businesses, with the previous one issued on January 22nd allowing eateries to serve alcohol until 11pm.

Clueless !

People do not want pathetic, unnecessary restrictions when travelling 6,000+ miles for a vacation !

Especially when the restrictions can just as easily go the other way and be tightened without warning at the whim of some over zealous official.

I wonder if the incredibly wealthy owners of these hotels, exhibition centres and shopping malls are also friendly with leading figures in the power stealing 'government'?

Meanwhile, small business owners can go swivel.

And the wisdom behind it would be what? that after 11 pm you'll catch Covid? i'd like to make a study of the brains of those who are coming with such ideas...

But it appeared not to relate to all bars or clubs that remain shut.

That's a very questionable decision, everywhere else is open, pubs/bars remain closed.

Why?

Am I missing something? I thought bars in Bangkok were already allowed to be open until 11pm. Pubs and bars are not closed.

Because it fits into a long term, post covid plan. Thighland will never the same again.

"...pubs/bars remain closed".

Huh?  There are not many bars/pubs that are still closed in Bangkok (go-go bars excepted).
