Pattaya business owners relieved after receiving a written reply from the Thai parliament regarding still legally closed entertainment venues

Pattaya, Thailand-  Pattaya business owners were relieved after receiving a written reply from the Thai parliament regarding assistance for business owners affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically those in the bar, pub, nightclub, and entertainment industry that is critical to Pattaya’s tourism industry.

 

The venues are mostly “open” as temporarily converted restaurants currently, although with many rules and restrictions including an 11:00 P.M. closure time that business owners want to be removed. Bars and nightlife have been legally closed in Pattaya since April 10th, 2021.

Mrs. Lamphueng “Lisa” Hamilton, the chairwoman of the Jomtien-Pattaya Entertainment venue operators club traveled to the Thai parliament previously to submit a petition letter for the government to take action after the entertainment operators in the area were heavily affected and were unable to open their business normally (including borders fully open to tourists) due to the Covid-19 pandemic for roughly over 2 years, resulting in a vast income loss and a permanent shut down for many.

 

Last year, Pattaya had an eight-month alcohol sales ban at restaurants and total bar closure, which also decimated many businesses. Lisa’s group, along with several others, were part of protests and movements to lift the incredibly unpopular ban.

Only difference from a bar is that these "Restaurants" have to close early, and from what I hear that isn't adhered to. The whole thing is a save face for the authorities and tea money maker for BIB.

And per the article, the reply stated…

 

Recently, the speaker of the parliament Mr. Chuan Leekpai responded to Lisa’s petition letter personally, stating, “ The request to reopen pubs and bars in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, and a remedy policy for the operators affected by the pandemic has now been forwarded to the government for further consideration”.

 

 

How can someone be relieved with a response like that?

What were they "relieved" about? Nothing has changed.

There is a tussle between between the old guards at the upper echelon of the society who don't want to open up the brothels for bride and orgy seekers and the brothel operators who see their businesses decimated. Brothels for thais where bride seekers don't congregate are operating as usual. So no problem for Thais.

Once all this COVID-19 nonsense is really over with, I'd be interested in seeing where money was exchanged between Chinese investors seeking to launder dirty money offshore and wealthy well connected Thais all across the Kingdom.

 

There's a well known saying "Never let a good crisis go to waste".

 

But again as this is Thailand, we'll never get to know the truth.

Drove round the town yesterday afternoon.  I saw at least FOUR policemen driving around on motorbikes on a Sunday!!! This is normally one of the four traditional BIB rest-days per week.  I went down Soi 6 and most 'restaurants' were open with plenty of maskless customers and 'waitresses' with not a single menu in sight.  One of the policemen drove past the top of the soi but did not turn left.

Absolutely spot on,

 

There is no change in the brothels dealing with the self appointed Thai Hi So's

 

Also, they book private venues and the local popular Mamasan brings all the girls to them, a bit like online ordering.

 

She poles up to the organizer for the party with a phone full of photos and descriptions. He then chooses who to bring. I have seen it up here in the sticks.

 

It all carries on as normal for them. It's the VISIBLE Soi Cowboys, Patpongs, Soi Metros they want rid of that tarnish Thailand's reputation!......Their views not mine!

Yes, it has never been about covid. Control is all that matters.

A military education in uniforms which these "generals" continue to wear when retired doesn't bode well..

The live of bars & restaurants between that 7/11 shaped like a ship & the Big C turn on the right hand side of Pattaya Tai was full to the rafters with customers still drinking & eating after midnight some with live bands for all the world to see.

The crackdowns only appear to focus on the foreign owned Pattaya establishments.

Koh Chang & Phuket also doing as they please.

Of course, all these corruption expenses, as well as ridiculous rents, are passed onto the customer. They will push it as far as what the business owner is able to pay, and the customer is willing to pay.  

 

Once they cross that threshold, difficult to get tourists back.
