Caldera Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Oh look, a new TAT guesstimate. Not quite as outlandish as they usually tend to be, this one. I guess we'll see. 1
Popular Post ThailandRyan Posted April 11, 2022 Popular Post Posted April 11, 2022 Just saw the TAT minister riding a horse through Bangkok shouting " The Indians are coming, The Indians are coming". The shutters were then drawn and the welcome lights turned off.... 3
Dexxter Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 I am not sure why any tourists would come to Thailand, especially 8 million of them. In the other story today, "Anutin: No indication to end of entertainment ban in Thailand"
starky Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Surely it's 8 billion coming not a paltry 8 million.
metisdead Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 An off topic post and a troll post has been removed.
impulse Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 8 million? They must be including migratory birds.
Stargeezr Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 TAT predictions should have the give or take 4 to 5 million , added to its prediction. Considering that COVID is all over the world, just how many people still have the money to travel half way around the world just to be in Thailand to see all the closed restaurants, bars, entertainment centers and even malls, and other family friendly venues. I expect to see a vast change when and if I return in November of 2023. It is always entertaining to see TATs continued fantasy numbers. 1
spidermike007 Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 The delusion and nonsense continues. Thailand continues to be a very unappealing destination now, with cowardly restrictions in place, nightlife destruction, and it's inability to bring their own covid numbers down. These clowns are dreaming. They should feel fortunate if they get 2 million this year, or in any year for the next five years of so. The devastation of the industry is nearly complete. 1

So their prediction is off by about 75%. Sounds like some people's DowJones prediction. 1
ChC1 Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 I don't think anyone in Thai government agency know what is coming, or they are afraid to tell the public what is exactly coming. Big economic shock is coming later this year, rather than 8 millions visitors. Soon TAT will have to welcome new Vietnamese middle class tourists to Thailand. 1

Shouldn't they at least be increasing if they hope to hit 8 million? The only thing that is increasing is the mall and hotel space like in South Naklua. Simultaneously with decreasing arrivals. Synergism can be negative too : 2+2=3
tomacht8 Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 ...expects at least 8 million. They have 444000 in 3 month already. If they want get 7,55 millions more in 2022 they have to do some big changes. Abolish all travel restrictions, open all nightlife entertainment, allow happiness again and give everybody who arrives with a passport a 3 month stamp without paperwork would give them higher visitor numbers. The hope that some super rich VIP tourists bring in the big money and employment for millions of thais in the tourism sector, is only a pipe dream. 2

Each new build in that area--like the new Grande Centre Point Space--just makes that part of town even more attractive. It's definitely where lots of Thai visitors to Pattaya want to be--they are the ones who have kept the large hotels in that area open during covid. When international tourists start coming again, many will want to be in that area, as well.

Which makes the old section becoming run down and a blight on the location, which will need to be demolished and re-built again. People get tired of one area and it becomes run down and filled with the lower dregs of society or different lo-income nationalities and worker who can not afford to be where they were before as it has been built up........shifting sands is all it is 1

T21 replaced the biggest 'blight' in that location--which spurred lots more redevelopment that continues to this day. The large tract across from T21 has been fenced off and will likely be redeveloped at some point--the land has now become far too valuable for low rise properties. People getting 'tired of one area' is rather a broad generalization. I can think of lots of tourist places that have maintained their attraction. Certainly going to the beach is timeless and many beach towns remain popular to generation after generation. The north Pattaya beach area in question is geared to handling large numbers of tourists in the numerous--and growing--numbers of large and small hotels. Many of the international tourists will visit only once so it will be difficult for them to get 'tired' of the area--it will always be new for them.
