BANGKOK (NNT) - Prinn Panitchpakdi, the former Democrat deputy leader, has been released on bail after answering charges in two sexual harassment cases and one rape case brought against him.

The Bangkok South Criminal Court said the politician is now barred from leaving the country.

According to Pol Maj Gen Trairong Piwpan, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), authorities have also requested that the suspect be barred from contacting witnesses or tampering with evidence in order to ensure that the investigation is conducted transparently.

Hathairat Thanakitamnuay, a key anti-government figure, filed a rape charge against Prinn on April 14 for an alleged sexual assault in early 2021 at a residence in Soi Sukhumvit 3.

According to police, Six more women are expected to file similar sexual harassment or rape complaints against Prinn on Monday (18 Apr).

Prinn, who denied wrongdoing, spoke briefly with reporters when he arrived at Lumpini police station on Sunday morning (17 Apr).

This sex scandal arose after an 18-year-old student filed a complaint on April 12 against the former Democrat politician, accusing him of sexually harassing her during a meeting on April 11 at a bar in Soi Sukhumvit 11, Watthana district. The woman said they were supposed to discuss economic topics for her studies, but the politician instead focused on sexual issues and attempted to harass her.

And of course, he no doubt will be out of the country very soon as it is exactly what the government/current justice system/people in high places wants him to do to avoid some nasty facts coming to light perhaps.

And how is that ever achieved with all his contacts?

He should be under house arrest, GPS tagged and all his wifi/internet disconnected.

So he did sexually harrass her... or just attempt to sexually harrass her ?

Like murder/attempted murder, both are criminal.

The chap robbing the gold shop rarely skates even if he exited the premises without any gold.

Or are you suggesting changes to the law?

I have a feeling that he will stick around and fight this.

There seems to be more to this than meets the eye.

Question 1 Why is an 18 year old girl going to a bar to talk to an older man?

Question 2  He supposedly sexually assaulted a key anti government figure?  Not even Thai men are that stupid.

A bar at Sukhumvit 11 ... I guess when discussing the "economic topics for her studies", they couldn't agree on a price and the girl was mad.

Soon to be seen in another country?

Facing 20 years in a Thai prison thats probably be the first thing I would do.

Odd how all this happens when he desides to run for governor and bribing people for peanuts is as common as sticky rice.

Too many casual observers have yet to figure out this pattern and it's intended usage.

Hence, the hundreds of public eye exiles that have taken this route.

Or might work?

Very easy to get across an unattended/unfenced section of the border and not far to a private airstrip capable of handling private jets and which doesn't lodge flight plans with the authorities and passports etc., are not checked.

No doubt there's many destinations where's it's easy enough to fudge the landing and the arrival formalities.

"Double-Secret Probation"?

Two points:

Pretty sure they did not confiscate any of his passports.

He can leave the country, legally, with permission from the court.

Although letting an accused sex-offender trot off to another country, where he might suffer a recidivism, might not be the best idea?
