Good morning,

A friend of mine wants to apply for a Thai drivers licence.

First step: Certificate of residence.

Chaeng Wattana? Right?

What documents does she have to take with her?

Regards,

Posted

Are they doing 90 day reports to immigration? If not she will not be able to get one.

It is done at Chaeng Wattana now.

Sure.  She does her 90 days report online.

Most important thing to take is your receipt of 90 day report.

Take along your standard photocopies of passport pages.

I also took along lease. Wasn't looked at.

TM30 bit similar, in the sense that if you have one take it along.

Cost is 200b and they mail it to you. Less that 2 weeks.

Edit: for the actual TDL, when I did mine I used an agent as it was covid times and was only certain number of que tickets per day.

She basically just did paperwork and waited with you through the process.

Only mention it as cost was 2000b and imo for some folk not a bad idea

APPLICCATION ....

Added note for others.

In the form that uj provided link notice there is box for Driving licence and next box is Car and Bike license.

Even if someone is obtaining both car and bike licence tick first box (car license).

If you tick car & bike they will issue two residence certificates (400b)

One is enough (200b)

My spell checker and a Google search says it is spelt correctly.

If flags your spelling as wrong.

Open the document and see it's written with 2 C.

Should be: application

The form is from immigration. I did not create it. I thought you were referring to the spelling in the hyper text I posted.

I know Ubonjoe.
I just thought they could at least make the effort to translate it correctly.

The only thing I did was create a PDF file for it since it is in a document format on the immigration website. Many people have problems opening document files or the formatting is wrong.

Nothing against you Ubon.

I much appreciate your work.
Was just to show that they could at least do a spell check when creating documents in a different language.

Keep up the good job.

I had to get two once for completely different purposes. When I asked if there was any difference between the two documents they said no. Both identical.

So why ask what its for?

Is it official now to charge 200 baht, they were free.

I have read a report of an immigration office charging 500b for instant issue (can't recall the office).

Bangkok is 200b and it's posted out. No instant service available.

Bit extreme.

I assume it was done on the spot?

You didn't need to return.

BTW do you know if obtaining a TDL in Rayong requires a residence certificate?

Don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread but an alternative to residence certificate for TDL , Bank account is Letter from embassy. (for embassies that provide that)!

I asked for CR from my embassy last year and the cost was 500Baht.

My ex asked yesterday how much "her" embassy would charge and they said: 85Euros (crazy).

If you were Australian you can't even obtain one at embassy.

The building is mainly for show.

Phuket charges 500. Its instant and you can even get it on visa-exempt.

I did get one from my consulate once for a Driving License. I paid 2000B. The LTO refused to accept it, so i still had to get one from immigration ????

The catch 22 with Bangkok, is that you must have filed 90 day report to obtain residence certificate.

That makes it difficult for tourists to obtain a TDL in Bangkok.

Yes, all done on the spot. Letter from Immigration or from the Embassy is required for driving licence in Rayong (as well as medical certificate). You need to take a photo for the Immigration letter. If you don't have one the girlies will snap you on a mobile phone and print off a strip of 6 for 100baht.

If she is working here I believe she can use her WorkPermit if they still have the address of residency in them.

It is done at Chaeng Wattana now.

I just applied at Chaeng Wattana for a residence cert for a TDL, I am not currently doing 90 day reports, I only have a 60 day extension on a Non-O. They didn't need my Rental Contract, just the passport copies. She couldn't find my TM30 online but I showed her a screenshot from 2 months ago and that was accepted.

I obviously don't have it yet as it is being posted out, but I did get some tracking number which I have no idea what to do with.
