Supreme Court Denies Trump’s Last-Ditch Effort to Delay Sentencing in Hush-Money Case
In a significant ruling, the US Supreme Court has turned down President-elect Donald Trump's final attempt to postpone his sentencing in the criminal hush-money case. The decision, delivered on Thursday evening, was split 5-4 against Trump's request for an automatic stay of his sentencing, slated for Friday. The case stems from Trump's conviction for falsifying records to mask reimbursements for a $130,000 payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, disguised as legal expenses. Justice Juan Merchan, who has been overseeing the case, indicated he would not consider a prison sentence for Trump. Reacting to the Supreme Court's decision, Trump called the case a "disgrace" but acknowledged that the ruling was "a fair decision, actually." Referring to Justice Merchan, Trump commented, "It's a judge that shouldn't have been on the case," and added, "they can have fun with their political opponent." Later, on his Truth Social platform, Trump dismissed the case as "the pathetic, dying remnants of the Witch Hunts against me" and vowed it would not distract him. In a rare alignment, two conservative justices—John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett—joined the three liberal justices in denying Trump’s request for a delay. The dissenting justices, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, were in favor of granting Trump's petition. The decision comes amid controversy surrounding Justice Alito, who had a phone call with Trump the day before the ruling, during which Alito recommended a former law clerk for a position in Trump's incoming administration. Prior to the Supreme Court's ruling, three lower New York courts had already dismissed Trump's efforts to delay the sentencing. The justices concluded that Trump’s concerns could be addressed during an appeal and that the burden of attending a sentencing was "insubstantial." Trump's legal team also sought to have the Supreme Court consider whether a president-elect is immune from criminal prosecution. However, Manhattan prosecutors countered that there was a "compelling public interest" in holding the sentencing as planned and argued against any intervention. Following Trump's guilty verdict in May 2024, his sentencing was initially scheduled for July. However, Trump’s lawyers managed to secure three postponements from Justice Merchan. Last week, Justice Merchan declared that the sentencing would proceed on January 10, just days before Trump's inauguration. In a flurry of legal maneuvers, Trump’s attorneys filed multiple appeals to delay the sentencing. But New York courts consistently rejected these bids, leading to the final appeal to the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Trump’s legal team argued that a stay was necessary "to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government," but their plea was ultimately denied. Dispute with landlord re moving out/ accused of "breach of lease/contract"
Watthong I downloaded what appears to be the Thai Only Royal Gazette Decree and read the 3 page document regarding businesses (loosely interpret) renting housing to someone. My opinion only is that Yes, you may be in breach of the contract. (Some info refers to renting less than 6 months of a 1 year lease) Decree states (Google Translated)The lessee does not default, owe rent and has a proper reason. My opinion is the "and has a proper reason" is an additional requirement that needs to be meet. I'm still deciphering but Proper Reason was Not defined. The rental agency has a responsibility to advertise and attempt to rent the unit once the notice is received. The consequences for "breach of contract" by tenant should be listed or defined in the current lease agreement. The lease being in Thai Only is probably our responsibility to translate (Google Translate, Google Lens App may help) My advice. Copy and print all emails or messages regarding notice, follow up notice and replies from management Understand the last month after notice is given they can contact you for showing the unit to prospective tenants. Ask them to provide the specific page number, paragraph of the lease agreement they claim you have breached. Ask them to provide the section for consequences of breach of contract that is in the current signed contract. You owe Jan 2025 rent you gave 30 days notice Dec 31, 2024. Advance rent was paid so default or breach for failure to pay rent is not valid. Did you provide a proper reason for canceling the lease? I understand any confusion and difficulties as it took me 45 minutes to find, verify something that would take 5 minutes in US. Seems they need to publish the decree in Word, text, document form that can be easily translated to Lessees language. -

Dog Fatally Attacks 84 Year Old Owner at Home in Saraburi
Yes indeed, however I still don't understand how a dog on a short chain could have done this. There was a severely mentally disturbed relative living in the same house. Should be, at least, investigated. -

Healthcare Insurance
That seems a bit high, do you have any deductible? At 71, with an excellent international policy, my premium was 4,800. That is with a $500 deductible, and inpatient only (but including day surgeries and outpatient cancer care/dialysis). -

Does Trump completely lack decency and compassion?
Such a hypocrite. We all know if Trump was the sitting President you would have blamed him 100%. It’s what you do best. -

Chinese parents searchs for missing daughter amid call centre scam fear
I went to Seoul about 6 or 8 times during the 2008 Olympic visa debacle. China generally wasn't issuing business visas that year, so I did back to back 30 day tourist visas. Got to hobnob with dozens of int'l business guys in the same visa boat, some of whom even owned factories in China. It was a PITA, but certainly not a deal killer. I loved visiting Seoul. Highly recommended, for the shopping, the street food and the history/museums. (Shameless plug). But it gets COLD. And the normal hotels were a little spendy. I even got up to the DMZ and was detained by the military for wandering around where I shouldn't have been. Which turned out to be a fascinating lesson in recent (at the time) North/South relationship. I got a personal tour of the border railway station that, 17 years later still isn't activated. One on one tour by the head of the SK gub'ment's reconciliation committee. The Big Cheese.
