Siam Rath reported that a thief in Rayong who stole a pick-up drove into the woods for a nap.

But he was soon arrested by Muang Rayong police in what the media called a "scrum" with other interested parties.

Kittichoke, 18, said he had gone to see his mother to get money for gas at her second hand shop in Choengnoen sub-district..

He parked outside and kept the engine running while he got the money.

But Sorawuth, 35, happened to be passing and saw his opportunity to steal.

He drove off towards Ban Laeng with Kittichoke in fruitless pursuit on foot.

Muang district police were informed of the theft. Also in the pick-up was the victim's phone that was sending out a location signal.

Police traced this to Soi San Jao and observed the thief coming out of the woods in the car where he had been resting.

He said: "It was hot and I didn't fancy walking".

Kittichoke's mother praised the police for their swift action and return of the vehicle.

The suspect was just out of prison after serving time on a drugs charge.

They warned the public not to leave a car unattended with the engine running.

You might not be as lucky as this family, they said.

Theft is about opportunism not about being clever or lazy. This thief was tired, not lazy.

The really lazy person here is the 18 year-old who left the engine running in an unattended vehicle.

The thief took advantage of the opportunity.

"Police warn public about leaving the engine running"

So true!!

And not just warn but fine. Easy money walking the car parks.

It annoys me on almost every shopping trip to experience the running pickups/cars (empty). What a disgrace.

Served the owner well.

The thief should have crashed it.

He'll not be disappointed back in the pokey then.
