BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a "durian metaverse", the first of its kind, featuring virtual tours of Thai durian orchards and the ability to virtually own durian orchards.

The "Amazing Thailand Metaverse: Amazing Durian" project was launched on Thursday (28 Apr) at the CentralWorld shopping center.

Given the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Thailand’s tourism industry, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn stated that his agency saw an opportunity to leverage digital technology to boost the country’s tourism competitiveness while also ensuring the industry’s sustainability.

According to Yuthasak, the project provides tourists who are durian lovers and collectors of digital assets with virtual experiences on durian farming. Durian farm owners from Chantaburi, Ra Yong, and Si Sa Ket provinces also attended the event.

Between April 29 and August 31, visitors can take virtual tours of durian orchards and collect or purchase non-fungible tokens (NFT) from the Durian Metaverse. The tokens can then be exchanged for game items or electronic vouchers redeemable for tourism-related products, or for the purchase of metaverse durian orchards.

Access to virtual durian orchard tours, modeled after real ones in durian-producing provinces, is available at www.amazingthailandmetaverse.com.

I am speechless almost...

Would anyone involved in this have thought it was a good idea if they had to pay for it with their own money?
