Popular Post webfact
Over 120 international flights, carrying 21,268 passengers, arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Phuket international airports yesterday (Sunday), the day after the government’s anti-COVID-19 “Test and Go” scheme ended, no longer requiring RT-PCR tests upon entry and first-night quarantine for the fully vaccinated and those who tested negative 72 hours prior to departure. At Suvarnabhumi Airport alone, 16,868 arrivals were recorded from 96 flights. Each passenger took an average of 15 minutes to get through passport control. Arriving passengers were separated into two groups upon arrival, said airport officials. Popular Post Sheryl
There is always a bump in arrivals on the first day that reduced entrance requirements (even slightly reduced) go into effect. Because people who would otherwise have arrived in the week or two prior will naturally have postponed slightly to avail of the new regs. in addition, they often stop processing Thailand Pass for a few days when rules are revised, creating a backlog which then manifests as a temporary surge. It will level off to a number more than before but nowhere near pre-COVID restrictions. The "Thailand Pass" requirement (completely unnecessary) remains a real obstacle. I am in the process of going through it for 2 Cambodian household staff (land border just opened after almost 3 years) and myself. I have done it several times before, under various sets of rules. It is not much easier now (unless one thinks uploading 4 vs 5 documents makes a huge difference). Nor is it any quicker or more efficient in terms of receiving the TP. I would definitely not go through this for a simple holiday. Nor IMO would most tourists. 20

Not taking sides but I did take the time to look at the arrivals majority are local flights should those be counted. As for the International flights are the flight full? One thing for sure if in fact they can generate the numbers as claims then can they imagine if we just open go back to Pre-covid? ???? 1 1
starky
Compared and contrasted to what exactly? I have no clue of arrival figures pre pandemic, or even when test and go was operating but 120 flights between to major airports to me doesnt sound impressive. And as others have stated less than 300 a flight?

They are not counting the domestic flights, it is 120 international flights. Spread between two airports it really isn't a lot so I have no idea why the other poster doesn't believe it. Maybe because the photo and story indicate reports congested and packed in lines no social distance as if people are knocking door the doors? Sadly we all kind of get conditions to all their lies or smoke and mirrors?

Maths is obviously not your strong point......neither is logic. Each passenger does not take 15 minutes at the desk!! If you say there are 40 desks open between BKK and Phuket and flights land over a 14 hour period (I have no idea how many desks are currently open but that seems reasonable), then it means each desk is processing 37 passengers per hour which seems perfectly normal. Take it over an 18 hour period and it is 29 passengers per hour per desk, so two minutes per person. In reality the numbers are probably over a 24 hour period.

Popular Post spidermike007
It is quite meaningless to measure the 1st day arrivals. Thailand has choked it's own throat, and shot it's own foot repeatedly, with heinous restrictions for 2 years now. So, on the 1st day with no quarantine, there is bound to be alot of pent up demand, and alot of expats and businessmen returning. Let's see what the numbers look like after a month, or a year. I predict around 250,000 a month for the next couple of years. Covid hit alot of people hard, and Thailand is but a shell of what it used to be. We shall see. Maybe you should check the definition of 'scam'. The definition I read is that it is a fraudulent business scheme. I think that the companies that offer insurance, many of them worldwide companies, might take issue with you on that. 2
