It should be noted that the ultimate boss is the Interior Minister (currently Anupong Paochinda). However, the Immigration Bureau is usually left to get on with things undisturbed unless there is a particularly lucrative opportunity attracting the Minister's notice.

The Royal Thai Police - which includes Immigration - was taken from the Interior Ministry in 1998, and has been directly under the Prime Minister ever since.

During the height of the Covid 19 situation the official order to grant a waiver until further notice for PR holders who couldn't get back to Thailand and their re-entry date had expired was signed by both the PM and the Interior Ministry.

Immigration orders and etc are still done by or approved the interior ministry.

If an elected civilian government gets into power will it have in its power, an overhaul of Immigration's outdated rules and regulations?
