Bang Lamung police test speed cameras on Sukhumvit Road for possible expanded program

Bang Lamung, Chonburi — Bang Lamung police tested a speed camera on Sukhumvit Road yesterday, June 2nd, 2022, to ensure its functionality and prevent speed-limit violators.

 

Pol. Maj. Gen. Chakkrit Chantakham led a team of law enforcement, Pattaya officials, and traffic engineers to examine and set up a speed camera at the Rong Mai-keed intersection on Sukhumvit Road inbound to Chonburi around 2:00 P.M. yesterday.

According to Officer Chakkrit, Bang Lamung traffic police cooperated with Pattaya officials to conduct this operation.

A well full of money; just got to dip the bucket in. I wonder how long before the cameras get vandalized? I'm sure the software 'skips' the Hiso and BIB and military numbered plates. This is to catch the pheasants only.

Are there speed limit signs? Don't recall seeing many. I often have issues with people driving too slowly in the wrong lanes on Sukhumvit. Speed traps would be good around the Railway bridge on Hwy 36, where speeding is common, and a high risk due to junctions and U-Turns.

No-one likes speed cameras....especially the cops. I just creates too much work for them...

Over 1.5 mio speeders failed to pay their fines a couple of years ago....it soon stopped.

Is this to catch speeding motorists and issue fines  which  are never paid ?, not  by the  people i know anyway, and government officials never bother  to   issue any summons for an unpaid fine... another waste of time  due to lack of enforcement

There are at least 25% with illegible number plates so it isn't going to be easy.

Here is a clue it won't work! 

On Sukhumvit like so many through Thailand,  you have inconsistent markings one moment it is posted at 60, as soon as you pass Makro it is 80, moments later there is Lotus back to 60, meantime regardless of the posting no enforcement average speed is 90?  

To use cameras your roads like Sukhumvit need to be consistent marked at 60 with a 10 exceed anything over 70 snap shot thereafter you need to find a way to collect the millions of violators!

These days the traffic in Pattaya is so bad that you'd be very lucky to find a road that's quiet enough to be able to break the speed limit!

What's the fine for not paying a 1000 baht spedding fine, 500 baht?

Jomtien 2nd Rd is the one usually recommended  and kills multiple bikers each year....unless they are digging it up again!
