One of Thailand’s leading breweries has announced an increase in the price of its beer.

Mr. Phurit Bhirombhakdi, Chief Executive Officer of Boon Rawd Trading Co., Ltd. has revealed that the price of Leo beer will increase from July 1, citing rising costs in production, energy and fuel.

Mr. Phurit said efforts had been made to maintain the price of Leo in order to reduce the impact on customers. However, rising costs meant that an increase in prices was now necessary.

He added that Leo is the last beer brand to implement a price increase, with other brands having already announced increases earlier in the year.

Not sure why it's sad.  I find a cold Leo with lots of ice in the afternoon delightful. Cheers.

Just reading this thread shows the dreadful lack of choice of Thai beers.   Let's hope Move Forward get their microbrewery bill passed.

  • You couldn’t pay me to drink Leo anyway..

Indexed linked pensions are essential to continue to enjoy your retirement and consume ice cold Leo daily.

It was only a matter of time...

Actually, I was fully expecting the price to stay the same, but the bottle size to decrease.

It won't be long before a large bottle of beer will drop to 600ml.

If you have to ask ...

... so sad ... ????

DISCLAIMER:  possible hypocrisy, as I drank all 3 name brands, and then some.  Embarrassed to say ... I was lost.  Now it's Kopper, Snowy or Laos Dark.

How about 50,000 baht a month to drink a bottle a day?

Yea ... had a sip

... once.  That's just vile

Back to Snowy, as Kopper no where to be found.

Strangely, Makro was out of Snowy the other day.  Got 1 in the frig, and 7-11 is short stroll away.

Means fresh stock at Makro next, as they are rarely out.

In Glasgow the contents of the tray was known as a 99.

The original 99 I believe was from wringing the towels on the bar into glasses at closing time.

Increasing the price of alcohol is always a good thing.  Spend the same amount and drink less.

Thai beer is already grossly overpriced and is very poor to boot. That is not thai bashing as it would be poor if it were Outer Mongolian. And when one lives in a place where you have little choice other than the ‘BIG’ three (????????????????????), paying more for dishwater makes it taste that much worse.

Can't stand LEO, but we are all different in our tastes.

SML for me 5% and every one tastes the same (unless it's been frozen) Why bars still do this I don't understand

There already are 5 breweries I know of.....3 Bears, 72 Brewing Company, Ambrosia, Bannok Beer and Beat Brewing...

Does the Thai Beer Mafia have any say so over independent craft beer labels?

Or even......or ever popular and beloved Beer Lao?

There are a lot more than that but most of them brew outside of Thailand to get around the laws here, then of course the extortionate import tax is paid.

3 Bears is a good example. Their beer was brewed to the Thai owner's recipe in Taiwan and imported into Thailand. It was just too expensive and the pub didn't survive very long.
