Latest Reopening! Chiang Mai airport packed with international travellers, reports Thai media

Thai media INN reported that Chiang Mai airport was packed with international travellers and tourists yesterday.

 

This as the kingdom scrapped the onerous Thailand Pass in the latest "reopening" of the country. 

 

Scoot Tiger Air flight TR 676 had just arrived from Singapore with 160 passengers aboard.

 

They blamed some of the tourists for not realizing they had to have vax details or Covid test results ready for inspection for the slowness of the arrival and long queues. This needs to be addressed by the airlines before they get to the gate, they stated. 

 

Airport director Wijit Kaewsaithiam said that now Thailand is fully reopened he expected an ever increasing number of tourists to be coming to Chiang Mai.

An airport packed with 160 tourists....... Surely must be high season

All this celebrating over a few customers in the first half of the year. If the government had done away with the stupid Thai Pass and other idiotic schemes earlier the place would be packed now.

Even if there was a problem with docs surely just put more immigration officers to deal with those with docs and those without?

No No No. You cannot do that. The customers/international travelers MUST always be blamed for not knowing the rules.

With the greatest respect, the Code Share flights of Bangkok Airways and Thai Smile shown are also flying in International tourists from International flights landing at BKK. No additional figures are quoted for these, just the 160 off the Scoot flight from Singapore.

An article intentionally written to attract the denigrators, and ... congratulations, you are the first one!

Not 160 tourists, but 160 pssengers on one flight from SIN. There are many more INTERNATIONAL arrivals on connecting flights, and there are many many more TOURISTS on domestic flights. Many of which are foreigners who having spent already time in places like Phuket or Bangkok are not counted as international arrivals.

Being unprepared with vaccination certificates is surely irrespective of which incoming airport in Thailand, and I doubt it as they would have to show the same at departure airport it's not that they destroyed them on the flight.

And btw, now is low season.

But those international tourists from international flights would have used immigration at BKK to transfer from international to domestic departures, and the covid tests would have been checked at BKK immigration and not in Chiang Mai. In Chiang Mai they would have been treated like domestic arrivals and would have been treated like Domestic Arrivals and been able to walk straight out without any further checks needed. The number is still 160 of international arrivals that would have been checked at Chiang Mai.

I noticed three international flights the the other day. Scoot Singapore, Air Asia KL and Jeju Air to Seoul. Thats the most in one day since covid began so things are picking up but very slowly compared to Bangkok and Phuket.
