Religious holidays bring two day alcohol ban this week

Major religious holidays taking place this week will see a two day ban on the sale of alcohol across Thailand, including in Hua Hin.

 

The two day ban will be in place on Wednesday (July 13) and Thursday (July 14) and will begin from midnight tonight through to midnight on Thursday.

 

The ban is in light of the celebration of two auspicious Buddhist holidays: Asanha Bucha Day and Khao Phansa, or Buddhist Lent.

 

Because both days are major holidays in the Buddhist calendar, the sale of alcohol is prohibited at all bars, restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and supermarkets.

Buying mine today no problem if you reside in Thailand you will be aware of the Religious holidays and Non alcohol days 

No doubt Tourists will be advised by their hotel or other means

We’re on holiday and just popped to the supermarket to stock up on some supplies….

I fancy a G&T this evening so figured I’d get a bottle of Tanqueray….

For argument's sake; this is not a Buddhist rule but a Thai military rule. 

Neighbouring Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to a certain extend are likewise Buddhist countries and none of them prohibits the sale, purchase or consumption of alcohol on any Buddhist holiday. 

Just to set the record straight! Yet another proof of sheer demonstration of power over the underlings and the lemmings follow blindly (officially at least) ........ go figure
