Popular Post webfact
Thai media Naew Na reported on a Thai woman in Nakhon Sri Thammarat in southern Thailand who has been feeding stray dogs and cats out of her own money for ten years. They said she was being praised for being "Jai Bun" - a word Thais reserve for the especially generous and kind. Their reporters went to Pho Sadet sub-district and discovered that the woman took the animals to the vet if they were involved in car accidents and sometimes even paid for them to be spayed. She cares for 30 creatures and goes out in all weathers every single day. Her name is Lamyai Kawpetch, aged 50. She's a seamstress who works at home. She has three grown up children who help her husband in a design and decorating business. They have enough money so she is able to spend all her own income on the strays. That's about 300 baht a day. She buys 15-20 kilos of chicken bones a time. Not everyone agrees with people like this, notes ASEAN NOW, with many thinking it encourages strays and exacerbates problems. Naew Na made no mention of this concentrating instead on her kind hearted nature according to Buddhist mores instead. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post proton
Like throwing petrol on a fire, feeding strays is irresponsible and only makes the situation worse. These idiot feeders are not 'making merit' as they would claim, but are enabling more suffering. 4 1 5

Some of them can be OK, and I realise that some people have good relationships with strays and they're almost like pets that belong to the whole street, but yes, many larger packs of roaming dogs that make a mess, destroy things, $hit everywhere and attack people, should really be exterminated.
Popular Post NativeBob
yeah, sure-sure, false merit it is. [in our moo ban] we got similar old woman that feed rice'n'sardines to cats, and another wierdo that feeds stray dogs. Dogs were so happy they started to bark and other fun almost every night. Ended with rat poison. Not a pleasant scene. 1 3
Popular Post 2long
I'm a dog lover, and many 'soi dogs' are my friends. However, this lady is making the problem a bit worse than it needs to be, by feeding them and I'm sure other less-worth humans have 'donated' their pets to her. But if she's getting them neutered then good luck to her and the world needs more people who care for other species instead of increasing the human population. Can we get her to neuter some AseanNow members? 555+ 5

Lucky Bones
I think there is a difference here. Generally a soi cat will skidaddle. A soi dog is likely to advance. Not good if children are around. Should not be encouraged. 1

Release birds from a cage to make merit? False. The whole process increases suffering as your buying the birds causes them to be caught and imprisoned. Popular Post steven100
Yeah right .... the Thai's think she's doing a real good deed feeding these stray mongrels ..... but as soon as one of her mutts attacks and bites a kid riding or walking past or an older fragile person they'll all be ducking and weaving for cover .... not mine ... not my dog ... no ' I don't look after them. BS imo .... fine her for harboring stray pests and encouraging breeding. 3 1

I think your missing the point Andy, they don't have a right to roam the streets where children play when they can cause harm. I love good clean dogs, but when you have in-breeding and cross breeding all you end up with is flee mangy mongrels. She is only exasperating the problem..... relocate them 1000 miles away and she can move there with them 4

All life is sustained by the taking of other life, whether purposely or unintentionally. What I do have a problem with is people who kill other animals for convenience or, worse yet, for enjoyment. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's encounter with a soi dog. I'm also sorry to hear about the abuse and slaughter done to soi dogs. 1 1

I live up in the mountains of Phetchabun on about 12 rai of land surrounded by jungle. I have 14 dogs, all which were abandoned on the mountain road which runs past our house, presumably by people from Phetchabun and the small villages at the bottom of the mountain. My dogs <deleted> where they want (outside), bark during the day (mostly at intruders) and howl occasionally at night. They do rip open bin bags if I don't secure them, and the do scare intruders, which is an asset living up here, but have never attacked them, like bite them. There's not much traffic up here, but for the most part, they stay off the road, but occasionally get hit by a car, and unfortunately, sometimes that is done intentionally. We spade the females but leave the testes on the males because I think they need the androgen up here to survive. I've lived like this for about 15 years up here, so I don't think I'll change my mind anytime soon. 3 1
