Do you fear "The Secretive Industry Devouring the U.S. Economy"?
Dear Monopoly Lovers: Would you say that you are a bit troubled by.... "Private equity has made one-fifth of the market effectively invisible to investors, the media, and regulators"? Monopolies did not begin with Gates and his monstrous monopoly, Microsoft, of course. Gates, at one time, tried to stamp out Linux, as you know. Fortunately, Linux proved to be fairly impervious to the GOLIATH, Gates, as he soon found out. Here is an interesting Atlantic article....for those who might be so inclined to read it: https://cdn.theatlantic.com/thumbor/j46ndE6sj1BBs3_vsXowNBwva5A=/1x0:965x542/960x540/media/img/mt/2023/10/StockMarketPoof/original.gif https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/10/private-equity-publicly-traded-companies/675788/ How much longer, would you imagine, this state of affairs will continue without inevitably reaching some tipping point, at which the pendulum will either begin to swing back, or, more likely, become completely unhinged? This is not a good state of affairs, the one in which we now find ourselves. What's to be done? What is the best collective action to be taken? Best regards, Gamma -

Do you think Air Travel is safe these days?
We get it... You don't like Barboy, who I agree is very likely Bob Smith... ... but, you are showing an unhealthy interest and trolling his threads more than he trolls the rest of us with his threads and polls. If you don't like the guy, just block him then you won't see his content... Instead I have to block you because of all the rubbish you keep posting in his threads. Just because the author of the thread is Barboy (bob) - its does not automatically mean the thread is trolling, wasteful or not worthy of discussion... Plenty of his threads are, but not all, and thus can be considered in individual merit. -

Tax on the poor?: What's the cause of USA inflation?
Jesus Wept. Have you not noticed inflation in Thailand? You have not noticed that worldwide inflation bedevils countries from China to Canada, Albania to Argentina today? Next rhetorical question, did you notice another worldwide event in the last five years, something besides the ever-growing WOKE menace. ...... Say a Virus? Every country in the world was pumping money into their economy to keep it chugging down the road and not spiral into recession/depression. When confronted with a pandemic, or lockdown, like the recent worldwide virus originating in Wuhan China. Countries pump money into the economy to keep people spending, to keep the economy from locking up. The by product is inflation and yes it is worldwide. NOTE recent US campaign rhetoric aside (as in Bidenomics) Trump started doing exactly this in his last year, 2020. No real choice, it is the only economic answer that might work. Biden continued it. This is a no brainer as only one economic theory works in these conditions - just deal with it - 'Keynsian economics'. as true today as it was in the 1930's and one that conservatives and liberals use. Conservatives just don't like to talk about it, but they use it. Recession/Depression - or - Inflation? It is not even a choice GG -

Jeju Air Flight from Bangkok Skids Off Runway at Muan Airport, 28 Dead
Its normal unless you run into a flock of canada geese as in the case with US Airways Flight 1549, an airbus 320 which knocked out all engine power forcing the pilot to dump it successfully on the Hudson River avoiding fatalities. Incredible skilled pilot with vast experience saved the day. Jeju captain could have attempted to put the aircraft down on the yellow sea as an option rather than on the runway.
