Authorities in Phuket this week confirmed that the 25-year-old German man who is believed to have picked up the infection abroad is neither homosexual nor bisexual.

The foreign tourist entered Thailand and first began to suffer symptoms on July 23rd with blisters spreading on his body until he sought medical attention last Tuesday at a private hospital on the island where a monkeypox infection was confirmed.

The Phuket Provincial Health Office has confirmed that the girlfriend of a German man who was diagnosed as suffering from monkeypox on Tuesday has tested negative for the disease as authorities on the island moved to play down the threat from the virus.

Wait. Hold the press. I thought this was a “gay disease “. Ignorant people. I guess heterosexuals swap bodily fluids as well. Amazing new info. ????

Its not a "Gay disease" it spreads through that a blister breaks and some fluid containing Virus is either transferred with direct skin-to-skin contact. Or skin-surface-skin contact like through bedsheets or such.

It is not transferrable by sex or kisses.

However Gay men is overrepresented in the statistics to transmit it.

Also incubation time is up to 3 weeks, so she might test positive in a week or two.

That will add an extra bit of frisson to those who venture out into the bar scene. Monkeypox pot luck!

So the man is bisexual. Now the pox is being spread among women into the normal heterosexual world. Social distancing is back on! Stay safe, gentlemen.

Where does it say he is bisexual?

You do realise viruses take no note of sexual orientation, don't you...

How can a woman reported as INFECTEDF now test negative.

Journalism at its worst, you are either infected or not ...Just how stupid are the writers in the Thai Examiner

The story does not say the girlfriend had monkeypox, a couple of commas missing from the headline might make one think that though.

And now a 22-year old Thai lady in Bangkok has it. Of course, she got it from dirty farang, because according to a report that includes quotes from the wonderful Dr. OPas, "The patient is a woman with a record of visiting entertainment venues popular with foreign tourists." ????????????

Why do you assume Farang ? The statement said "venues popular with foreign tourists" and that includes many other than just farangs

how this tourist is so uncaring for his own health that he waited 10 days to ask for medical care.

Puzzle is how he contracted this virus.

And how his gf avoided infection despite staying together for over 10 days.

Not much of a puzzle as has already been stated in many places that people who have had smallpox vaccinations previously are far less likely to contract monkey pox. So perhaps this lady had indeed had her smallpox vaccine.
