webfact
by Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - The government plans to increase the number of the charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) by over 65% by 2030. According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek, the number of EV charging stations nationwide will increase from 944 to 1,394 over the next nine years. The resolution followed a study conducted by the Ministry of Energy to boost EV production in the kingdom. The spokesperson added that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) have established a testing and certification center for high-voltage chargers for EVs and other devices. The center opened on July 15, allowing local manufacturers to cut costs and accelerate EV development by eliminating the need to send their products to be certified in other countries. This would help the domestic EV industry and support the government’s goal of becoming a leading country in regard to the electric vehicle sector. edwinchester
So they're planning on installing an extra 5 charging stations per province over the next 8 years. That is truly pathetic.....speechless considering the Govt are trying to encourage ev use.

Yeah that will do, great plan. Give yourself a raise.

Popular Post mrfill
Just checked to see how many EV stations are currently in the UK. Ans: 20336 stations with 54779 connectors (July 2022). Thailand surging to the future with, maybe, 1400 in 8 years time. Wow... 2
IamNoone88
Thank goodness. No chance of my beloved reliable petrol engine being phased out for a very long time at that rate then.

This is the one that is more worrying to me. We know how testing and inspection works in Thailand, so when kick-backs come into play how many of these chargers, presumably at existing petrol stations, will explode and burst into flames ?
Popular Post JBChiangRai
I think you are misunderstanding the numbers. The OP is talking about government charging stations, presumably they mean PEA, MEA, EGAT. There are hundreds of privately owned/managed high voltage DC charging stations already at PTT, EA Anywhere, MG, ElexA, EVP, CL etc etc and hundreds more AC charging stations at Malls, Restaurants, Petrol Stations, Coffee Shops and many of them are free. A savvy EV owner can charge and travel for free all over the country. I commute Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai every few weeks and never pay to charge my battery EV car. 3
Popular Post Tropposurfer
I'm looking into an EQE EV for my island driving Home after use, plug into my home charging station (solar fed) for a free (after the system is paid for that is) top-up ready for the next jaunt. Nice to drive and know I am not adding to the stink and pollution (well, except for my truly deplorable character disseminating its cankerous odour will-nilly). There are some awesome EV's and hybrids on the market and coming online every year. Each gen getting better and better. I'd love to see the MOT replace the entire LOS stinky Thai bus system with EV or hydrogen driven, subsidise all baht buses the same, and invest in further development of decent sized electric bikes and encourage (tax incentives?) in leaving the vast majority of internal combustion engined motocys to go for recycling. Come on Honda and all you other super rich powerful mothers ! 2
bendejo
I hope they come up with an etiquette for dealing with these charging stations, it's not going to be fun when someone cuts in front of you in the queue with impunity because "you farang!" 1

rickudon
Before EVs become common place, they need to produce waterproof cars! Every wet season i have to drive through flood water, some of which comes up to chassis level.......
Screaming
I am sure this news will encourage every person in Thailand to trade in millions of gas cars so they can wait in line for the 1394 charge stations throughout the country. What a joke this is. whatmeworry.webp 1
Screaming
And where will the power come from to charge these EV vehicles..............you guessed correctly, from coal powered power plants.
Eano
Maybe they mean 9 months ... But I haven't heard anything about the solar & wind power that is needed not just for EV's but in general. A few hundred solar cyclone towers would be a good start. https://www.enviromission.com.au/site/solar-towers/concept

No, you informed incorrectly. Thailand's electricity generation is mainly NOT coal.
