Sixth former plunges to her death at top Bangkok school for girls - accident a distinct possibility

Thai Rath reported that Yannawa police in downtown Bangkok received a call at 3pm yesterday that a 17 year old girl had fallen from the sixth floor balcony of a school building, the top floor.

 

At the scene by the Chalerm Prakiat building of Satri Si Suriyothai school in Charoen Krung Soi 57, they found "B", from class 6/2 still breathing.

 

She had head and leg wounds and was dressed in pink PE kit and brown trousers. 

 

She was given CPR at the scene then rushed to Lertsin Hospital but died there.

 

Yannawa chief Pol Col Thanachote Rikdee said that everything had been normal, she had been doing activities with school friends. 

 

Friends and teachers said that B was a lively young lady with no apparent stress problems or issues that anyone was aware of.

 

The parents were set to be interviewed to try and confirm this.

 

The media noted that the balcony only has a one meter+ wall and it was possible that it was a complete accident. 

 

Investigations continue with police not willing to give any reason yet for the tragedy.

Tragic - r.i.p. the young lady and peace to her family. But it shows the necessity of updating the local building standards and introduce higher balconies for the new generation of taller Thais.

Six floors up and only a low wall with no railings atop to prevent accidents..

Are they attempting to use the one meter wall as evidence that this could have been an accident? Or do they just not know how to spell "negligent"?

poor girl ... very sad indeed,  was it an accident or did she have serious issues .... bf breakup or something.

 

truly tragic as she had her whole life ahead of her ...

My 8 year old has a school trip next week a 115km bus drive away he wont be going safety is a joke here inside school yet alone adding in a road journey ????

Very sad incident, but I wonder why was CPR performed on her if she was breathing and, presumably, had a pulse?

I feel sorry for the lad if he wanted to go with his school friends, more people don't have any problems on Thai roads than do.

You won't let him go on a statistically safe school trip yet you still allow him to attend that "unsafe" school every day?   I can't understand that kind of logic.

One logic you are struggling with is one takes place 1.5km away and is necessary one is not and involves a Thai driver and a Thai maintained bus ????
